Green Nightglow Above Us All the Time, You Just Didn't Know: Washington / Oregon Coast Science
Also called chemiluminescence, once you see it you can't unsee it. Astronomy, Rialto Beach, Manzanita, Gold Beach. It's called “airglow” (or "nightglow" at night) - a bizarre but extremely faint green glow in the night skies. The reason you don't know about it is because you largely cannot see it with the naked eye, although if you look at most night photographs of the Washington coastline or Oregon coast, it's there. But it takes photographic equipment.

Washington / Oregon Coast Astronomy Fun with Groundhog Day, 'Da Vinci Glow'
Look for a planetary conjunction and earthshine. Then, around the middle of the month, look for “Earthshine” to illuminate the darker side of the moon, seen in the southwest just after sunset. Sometimes called Da Vinci's Glow, this is the sunlight reflected back onto the moon from the Earth's polar ice caps and clouds.

A Little Halloween Astronomy for Oregon Coast, Washington Coast
There's a bit of science of the skies at work above. It's a tradition that's almost as old as the British Isles, but this factoid goes back billions of years. That holiday occurs at the approximate midway point between the autumn and winter solstice. Yet it's only been fixed by tradition, an expert tells us. The true cross-quarter day creates a discrepancy of about one week. “According to the ancient Celts, a cross-quarter day marks the beginning, not the middle, of a season".

Interstellar Objects Above Oregon Coast / Washington Coast Only Cameras Can See: Emissions Nebulae
Astrophotography has taken on whole new levels of accessibility. Astronomy, Gold Beach, sciences, Secret Beach. On clear nights above the Oregon coast and Washington coast, there's a lot of things lurking up there we cannot see. But they're very much there. Weird, indistinct blobs; fuzzy splats in the sky; things that look like giant dots with fading edges around them (as if someone had spilled iridescent coffee in the heavens); to the surreal crescent of Barnard's Loop: all in a bizarre, crayon-like pink/red

Weird Lights Above: Starlink Satellites Visible Over Washington, Oregon, Coastlines
At least one video has surfaced of a string of odd lights in the sky above the Pacific Northwest, showing them heading in a straight line and at an even pace. That, it seems, was the latest launch of Starlink satellites zipping around above towns both major and small on Friday, and likely even putting on a show along the Oregon coast and Washington coast.
