(Portland, Oregon) – Weather may be turning in Oregon and Washington, satellite-spotting is waning, and even the International Space Station is not as bright and prominent in the night skies as this past month.
Yet activity up there continues, you can catch it live.
NASA plans a September 1 spacewalk to replace a navigational reflector and complete several maintenance tasks outside the International Space Station. Live coverage begins at 7 a.m. EDT, with the excursion scheduled to start around 8:30 a.m. and run roughly six and a half hours. The agency will stream the event across its online platforms at nasa.gov/live.
“During U.S. spacewalk 99, NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Sophie Adenot will replace a retroreflector on the forward port of the space station’s Harmony module to support spacecraft navigation during rendezvous and docking operations,” NASA said.
Additional tasks include installing jumper cables for the station’s data-relay systems, preparing the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer’s radiator for future servicing, and replacing a high-definition camera on the station’s truss.

Adenot will serve as spacewalk crew member 1 and wear a suit marked with red stripes. Meir, crew member 2, will wear an unmarked suit. It will be Meir’s seventh spacewalk and Adenot’s third. With this outing, Meir moves into third place among NASA women for total spacewalks, behind Peggy Whitson with 10 and Suni Williams with 9. The event marks the 284th spacewalk dedicated to station assembly, maintenance, and upgrades.
More information about station operations, research, and crew activities is available at nasa.gov/station.
