.(Cannon Beach, Oregon) – It's going to be a great week to play hooky from work anywhere in Washington, Oregon or on the coastline. But it's going to be an eventful one, with plenty of sun, lovely temps, a dip into rain, maybe freezing overnight temps and even some big waves at the end of next week. Above: Newport / Oregon Coast Beach Connection.
Plus, the International Space Station will get big and bright over the next few days.
Portland / Metro & Willamette Valley
Mostly sunny Friday near the mid-70s, with clouds and a small early-morning rain chance developing overnight. Saturday starts with light showers before turning mostly sunny and cooler, then Sunday stays mostly sunny near the low-60s. Clouds return Sunday night, with a cooler and mostly cloudy Monday, and the rest of the week trending dry and near 60.
North Oregon Coast
Friday is mostly sunny near 69, with clouds and patchy dense fog forming overnight. Saturday brings morning fog and mostly cloudy skies with breezy north winds, then clearing at night. Sunday is mostly sunny near 60, Monday turns mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain, and the rest of the week stays partly to mostly sunny in the low 60s.
South Oregon Coast
Friday stays mostly sunny in the low 70s, with fog and a slight chance of overnight rain. Saturday begins cloudy with morning fog before turning partly sunny and cooler, followed by a clear night. Sunday is mostly sunny near the low-60s, clouds and fog return Sunday night, and Monday brings cooler, cloudy weather with a chance of rain before gradually improving midweek.
Deeper Look – and the ISS
Now through Saturday night, the National Weather Service (NWS) says dry weather continues with another day of above-normal temperatures. Interior valleys reach the mid to upper 70s - about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the typical low to mid-60s - while coastal highs run closer to normal. However, parts of the south coast see the 70s today and near that this week.

The NWS notes moderate to low chances for light rain Saturday morning north of Lincoln City and from the Portland metro northward, with the best odds in the southwest Washington Cascades and totals generally a trace to 0.10 inch.
Then, the good, sun-shiny stuff returns Tuesday or so.
“Highs will be closer to normal, topping out in the mid to upper 60s across the interior valleys. Will need to keep an eye on Saturday night as clouds clear and temperatures drop into the 30s.”
Along the ocean beaches, things are mellow for awhile.
“Benign marine conditions continue,” the NWS said. “Seas remain around 4-7 ft at 10-12 seconds through early Saturday morning.”

However, northwesterly swells kick in over the weekend, building seas to 7-9 ft by Saturday evening and 10-13 ft early next week.
Then it gets interesting.
“There is a 15-30% chance for seas exceeding 15 ft on Monday, with the highest chances beyond 30-40 nautical miles,” the NWS said. “Will also note that the long periods from the swells will result in a moderate sneaker wave threat Friday into early next week.”
The NWS said it may issue alerts then, but they said to be cautious of the surf near the end of the week.
All of these clear skies in the region will bring more spectacular showings of the International Space Station. And it will be extremely bright at times.
