(Pacific City, Oregon) – It's probably going to rain on your Memorial Day parade. But on the positive side: look for summer-like conditions through about Saturday night, when things begin to cool.
Even the coastlines are going to be in a summer mood, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The outlook is fairly similar around the state, though the temp ranges are different. Forecasters are actually concerned about heat risks to some in the valley.
Oregon Coast Northern Half:
The north coast will see mostly sunny weather Thursday with highs near 71, followed by a partly cloudy night around 51. Friday brings more sunshine with highs near 66 before clouds increase Friday night. Saturday starts mostly cloudy but gradually becomes sunny with highs near 64, then turns partly cloudy Saturday night. Sunday will be partly sunny with highs near 64, and a chance of rain arrives late Sunday night. Memorial Day looks cooler with rain likely and highs near 58, with more rain likely Monday night. Showers may linger Tuesday, though skies trend mostly sunny with highs near 59.
Portland Metro / Willamette Valley:
The Portland area will be mostly sunny Thursday with highs near 85, followed by a clear night around 54. Friday stays sunny with highs near 83 and another mostly clear night. The weekend remains warm and dry, with sunshine Saturday and highs near 81, then mostly clear conditions Saturday night. Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs near 78 before clouds increase Sunday night. Memorial Day turns cooler with rain likely and highs near 64, with a chance of rain continuing Monday night. Showers may persist Tuesday under partly sunny skies with highs near 64.
The NWS office in Medford said summerlike weather is expected across Oregon’s southern half for most of the week and into the holiday weekend.
“Morning clouds along the coast are likely, but should give way to sunshine by the afternoon. Inland temperatures are expected to be 10–15 degrees above normal through Sunday,” the NWS said.
Weak instability could spark a few thunderstorms across northern California Friday and Saturday afternoons, with about a 10 percent chance of development. Conditions may begin to shift on Memorial Day as forecasters watch the potential arrival of a cold low-pressure system moving into the Pacific Northwest.
The NWS said that could bring a 10–15 degree cooldown on Monday along with increasing chances for rain later in the day.
If's all fairly similar on the northern half of Oregon, the NWS in Portland said.
Later in the week, temperatures are projected to hit the 60s to near 70 degrees on the coast and the upper 70s to mid-80s inland. The NWS says this pattern will bring widespread minor heat risk across much of the region, with the immediate coast remaining the main exception.
Chances for moderate heat risk on Thursday range from 15 to 35 percent in Portland and the northern Willamette Valley, 5 to 20 percent in Salem and Albany/Corvallis, and 5 percent or less elsewhere.
Through the weekend, temperatures are more likely to trend cooler, especially by Monday, and Memorial Day could mean a lot of rain.
