Highway 101 / Nehalem
There’s more cozy Americana in Nehalem, with more of the old saloon-like architecture common on the north coast gracing the town with an elegance and charm. - Nehalem
Nehalem River and Boat Launch
As you leave Nehalem and drive south over the bridge, you’ll notice this tiny park tucked away beneath it and the highwa.
Down the river, the Nehalem runs about 100 miles into the coast range. Fishing is popular along all areas, with the up-stream spots near Highway 26 open to steelhead fishing all year.
Highway 53
Head this way to go to the Nehalem Bay Winery or to Portland. Although twisting, winding and much slower, you can cut a little time off your drive to Manzanita if you take this from the junction on Highway 26. - Highway 53
Wheeler
Cruise up 101, past pastoral glimpses of the bay, the spit and a host of pilings and you'll soon come to the deceptively tiny town of Wheeler. Old saloon-like architecture and chunks of Americana populate this colorful place. In fact, some of these old buildings are decorated quite boldly. - Wheeler
Nehalem Bay
Often, it's overlooked because it's not exactly "the beach," but there's a little bit of paradise lurking in this corner of the coast with a backwoodsy, relaxed and slightly rugged feel. Right in the middle of gorgeous forestland. Rent a kayak to find other absolutely hidden spots within the bay.
From here, the road winds and turns along Nehalem Bay, past mudflats and little communities like Brighton. There's a couple of marinas here with crabbing and other gear / activities. - Nehalem Bay
