(Rockaway Beach, Oregon) – This Saturday marks the grand opening celebration for a brand new fishing dock on Lake Lytle, in the north Oregon coast town of Rockaway Beach. The event happens right at the dock, starting at 9 a.m., on the shore of Lake Lytle next to Highway 101, at milepost 50.
Ron Rehn, Salmon Trout Enhancement Program (STEP) biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s North Coast Watershed District, said he was pleased to have this facility open to the public. “This is a high quality dock that is going to provide excellent access and more opportunity to recreational fishermen for years to come,” he said.

The dock was constructed through funds provided by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), Oregon Restoration and Enhancement Fund, Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation, Loren Parks and the Rockaway Beach Lions and Lioness clubs. Other financial contributors included the City of Rockaway Beach, Tillamook Anglers, and Tillamook County Parks and Public Works.
The dock will be operated by ODFW by permits issued from the city, and maintenance will be provided by the Lions, Lionesses and City of Rockaway Beach.
Lake Lytle is 65 acres of water sitting about a half mile north of Rockaway Beach. With ample parking along the gravel next to 101, it's a popular fishing spot and even includes some other businesses that rent out water recreation craft for use in the lake.

For fishing, species found there include stocked hatchery-reared rainbow trout, largemouth bass, yellow perch, and surplus hatchery steelhead when available.
Just before the grand opening the state will stock Lake Lytle with 3,000 rainbow trout. During the celebration, Rockaway Beach Lions and Lioness clubs will provide free hot dogs and soda.
Lytle is the largest lake by far in Rockaway Beach – but it's not the only one. There are also Crescent Lake, Spring Lake, Nedonna Lake, Smith Lake and Lake Marie. All are quite small. Some other even smaller lakes and ponds dot the area around Rockaway Beach as well.
Rockaway Beach sits about a 35-minute drive south of Cannon Beach and 20 minutes north of Tillamook. For more information on the Lake Lytle dock, call the Rockaway Beach Chamber at 1-855-233-6362.
