(Portland, Oregon) – UPDATES: A host of new high wind warnings and flood advisories for the Oregon coast, as well as interior Northwest Oregon and much of Washington. Flood warnings for northwestern Washington from near the coast to Seattle. High wind advisories for inland parts of Oregon.

Gusts up to 60 mph tonight on the coast are possible.

Officials in Oregon and Washington worried about more landslides and downed trees because of saturated soils over the coming days. See weather links below for each area.

Just as the Pacific Northwest region was beginning to recover from last week's floods, more atmospheric river action is on the way, and for an extended period. It's also poised to once again hit Washington harder than Oregon. While some flooding impacted the central Oregon coast (including a massive landslide), it was Washington that received a longer beating from the weather system. Now, more is coming to Washington, while Oregon will get wet and gusty in a run of patterns that will last for the next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Along the coastlines, waves may put on a bit of a show in rocky areas.

WASHINGTON

In Washington, some areas of King and Pierce counties were evacuated, with another round of them today (Monday). More of that may be in store, as flood-prone regions there have not all dried up yet. The state just qualified for federal disaster aid, but luckily this series of rain events won't be as impactful.

In both states, Monday starts off as rather wild but calms Tuesday in Oregon. Full Oregon Weather: North, Central, Eastern Southern

A flood watch remains in place from Monday morning through Thursday afternoon across western Washington, including Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, and Whatcom counties. Cities affected include Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, Olympia, Bellingham, and Aberdeen. Much of the Washington coast appears to be spared, with most problems inland.

Excessive rainfall will continue to pose a flooding risk inland, the NWS said. Heavy rain over the past week has saturated soils, and an additional 2–6 inches is expected early this week. The combination raises the threat of landslides and debris flows, particularly in steep coastal bluffs, hillsides, road cuts, and recently burned areas.

The risks will gradually diminish but may persist for several days after the rain ends. See Washington coast weather (and wave height). See Washington road alerts, closures

OREGON COAST, NORTHWEST INTERIOR

For the northern part of Oregon's coast, the Willamette Valley and Cascades area, thunder storms are possible today (Monday). Then things calm for a day.

“The reprieve early Tuesday will be short lived as another frontal system arrives later Tuesday, bringing another round of rain and wind,” the NWS said. “Again, this frontal system appears to move fairly quickly across the area Tuesday night, with the heaviest precipitation expected between 4 PM Tue - 4 AM Wed.”

Then another atmospheric river kicks in Thursday into Friday. There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall across most of western Oregon, the NWS said.

“With our soils very saturated and rivers full, adding the Thursday-Friday system, local area rivers could see potential flooding,” the NWS said.

Coastal towns and areas like Portland, Salem, Corvallis or Silverton are seeing more major weather watches and warnings – see individual weather links below.

SOUTHERN OREGON

Southern Oregon faces a return to active weather this week, beginning Monday and likely lasting 7 - 10 days, according to the NWS.

A stronger front arrives late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing gusty winds across the region - strongest along the coast and east of the Cascades, where damaging winds are possible. Widespread rainfall is expected, with the heaviest totals along the coast and Cascades. Snow levels drop as well.

On Thursday, an atmospheric river will deliver another round of strong winds and moderate to heavy precipitation, lasting longer than the midweek front. Rain intensity eases Friday, though lingering gusts could still cause difficult driving conditions and scattered power outages.

Flooding concerns remain low for southern Oregon and the coast, though officials are monitoring the Coquille River. See Oregon Coast's OR229 Shut Down Indefinitely by Severe, Chasm-like Landslide

Wave height along the Oregon coast may get unruly at around 17 feet midweek, which will create dangerous conditions on smaller beaches. It will make somewhat dramatic wave action at places like Yachats or Depoe Bay, but not enough to push Shore Acres into large displays.
