Mother Nature looks to be going on a bender when it comes to high winds, both on the coast and inland, as well as drenching rains – with a good measure of heavy surf warnings thrown in. There's even a chance of thunderstorms and waterspouts on the beaches and weak tornadoes inland.

“Strong south winds are forecast across the region on Saturday, with gusts up to 60 mph along the coast, Coast Range, and Willapa Hills,” the NWS said. “South winds with gusts up to 45 mph are forecast across interior lowland valleys. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect from 5 AM - 11 PM Saturday.”

Power outages are definitely possible with varied downed trees, and travel may be difficult for high profile vehicles.

As of 7 p.m. Friday, PGE is showing nearly 2000 residents without power, mostly in the Portland / Salem areas.

“There is a 15-25% chance for thunderstorms across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington on Saturday, except for higher chances of 25-30% along the coast,” the NWS said.” Thunderstorm chances start as early as Saturday morning and last through the evening. Impacts include lightning, heavy rain, gusty outflow winds, and weak tornadoes or waterspouts (especially along the coast). When thunder roars, go indoors! The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk for Severe Thunderstorms on Saturday.”

To the south, the Medford NWS said several fronts are moving through, bringing periods of moderate to heavy rains, especially to areas around Medford, Ashland and the south coast.

“Heaviest rain is expected for Coos, Curry, Douglas, Josephine and western Siskiyou counties,” the NWS said.

Up in Washington, winter weather advisories are all up and down the central portion east of Seattle, including Mount Rainier, Longmire, Ashford, Mount Baker, Stevens Pass, and Snoqualmie Pass.

Winter weather advisories from Bremerton, Seattle and down into Olympia and Vancouver are in effect for Saturday, with high winds of 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph possible.

For the coastlines of Washington and Oregon:

A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect until 11 p.m. Friday for the northern half of the Oregon coast and most of the Washington coast, with forecasters warning of possible sneaker waves. A separate High Surf Advisory is now in effect from noon Saturday through 5 a.m. Sunday for the same region, where breakers up to 28 feet are expected to create hazardous surf conditions.

On the south Oregon coast, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday. Large breaking waves ranging from 20 to 28 feet are forecast, along with a high risk of sneaker waves during lulls in the surf. The advisory covers all beaches and surf zones in Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties. Do not call these king tides, however. Here's why

Then there's the torrent of offshore alerts and warnings for gale winds, rough seas and major storms.
