(Newport, Oregon) – INCLUDES PHOTOS FROM STATE PARKS --- A vandalism spree on the central Oregon coast stretched across some 40 miles and severely damaged six Oregon state parks or waysides, according to Oregon State Parks. The destruction has shut down most restrooms in those parks: Gleneden Beach, Fogarty Creek, Boiler Bay, Rocky Creek, Devil’s Punchbowl (Otter Rock) and Agate Beach.
Now, Oregon State Police are investigating the crimes, which included some arson, it turns out.
Vandals hit six state parks in Lincoln County, leaving the restroom facilities damaged, burned, and partially or fully closed. The incidents occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on August 21 and 7 a.m. on August 22, according to Oregon State Police.
Damage varied by location but included broken doors, shattered toilets, destroyed fixtures, missing dispensers, and trash scattered throughout the buildings. Mirrors were broken and garbage containers were tipped over.

Investigators say fires were intentionally set at some of the sites, although no details there have been released. In one photo, where appears to be paper towels that were set on fire.
OSP is asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity near these parks during the overnight hours to come forward. They are also requesting that residents and visitors review any video footage from roads leading to or adjacent to the affected parks for possible evidence.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact OSP Dispatch at 800-442-0776 or by dialing *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone. Please reference case number SP26-274452.
“I can say we’ve gotten portable toilets out so there are restrooms generally available, but we do not have any timeline for reopening,” spokesman Lauren Wirtis told Oregon Coast Beach Connection.

Some parts of the restrooms were more damaged than others, including Agate Beach, where one gender's side is closed but the other open.
“Park rangers are working hard to repair and reopen these facilities as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we address this vandalism and restore safe, clean spaces for everyone,” the agency said.
