(Newport, Oregon) – UPDATES: A steady stream of positive updates have come out of the central Oregon coast this morning after a fire broke out at the Pacific Seafood freezing facility in Newport.
According to the City of Newport's John Fuller, Newport fire officials reported in a 9:03 a.m. today that crews extinguished the fire around 6 p.m. Sunday night and continue to monitor and suppress a handful of remaining hot spots.
UPDATE AS OF 6:18 PM: All businesses on the Bayfront are able to reopen
- A small section of Bay Blvd. between SW Hatfield St. and SW Lee St. will remain closed indefinitely during the fire investigation and cleanup. Currently there is no timeline for either to be completed, but we will provide updates as those processes continue to progress. The sidewalk in front of Ripley's Believe It or Not (in the area where the street remains closed) is fully reopened
The Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office will lead the investigation into the cause of the fire, with assistance from Newport Fire Department personnel.
Smoky conditions continue to linger around Newport, and residents are advised to wear masks if they must spend time outdoors. Officials said there is no threat to the community and no risk of contamination related to the incident.

Most of the Bayfront has reopened, although the area marked in red on the closure map remains off limits to vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. Authorities are asking the public to stay behind barricades set there – for a number of good reasons.

“We do understand many of you may be curious, but there is still lingering smoke in the immediate zone where the fire is, so we request that you stay behind barricades,” said Fuller.
Pacific Seafood is currently running in its other buildings.
Officials also thanked the dozens of firefighters and emergency responders who assisted with the incident and helped keep the community safe.

An enormous array of agencies assisted. Fuller said Newport would like to thank them all:
