(Portland, Oregon) – It won't be the worst kind of heat for much of northern Oregon, but it's going to be a scorcher nonetheless. Throughout Oregon and Washington, temps will hit will into the 90s for most areas, with some spots getting up around and over 100 degrees.
The National Weather Service (NWS) offices in Medford, Portland and Seattle are sending out a flurry of warnings and advisories, except for most of the coastlines of both states.
“Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories have been issued for much of the NW Oregon and SW Washington interior lowlands for Sunday through early Tuesday,” said the NWS.
Southern Oregon areas like Grants Pass and Medford are expected to hit 105 or more, and linger near or over 100 for the next day or two.
“Monday will be the warmest of the stretch,” said the NWS office in Medford. “In fact, it will be so warm that the record warm low temperature at Medford will be in jeopardy. The current record is 66 from 2021, and the forecast is 69 degrees.”

Out on the coast, Brookings looks as if it will easily break its overnight low record, with the NWS saying it never went below 77 degrees Saturday morning.
Even much of interior Washington is under a heat advisory, although missing the coastline except for Aberdeen. It includes areas like Seattle, Maple Valley, Bellingham and Tacoma.
“Hot conditions with high temperatures in the 90s expected and low temperatures in the 60s,” the NWS in Seattle said. “This will pose a moderate heat risk of heat-related illness.”

On the plus side, clear skies (and warm nights) should prove fruitful for watching astronomical phenomena. More on that at bottom.
As of Sunday morning the forecasts are (many of the higher temps are just a bit inland from the beaches):
Portland, Willamette Valley to Eugene, Columbia Gorge
For the Portland area down into Eugene and the rest of the Willamette Valley, there's an extreme heat warning in place from Sunday through Tuesday. This includes the Gorge, and eastern valley areas like Silverton.
“Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures as high as 97 to 105 degrees expected, coupled with mild overnight low temperatures of 64 to 70 degrees,” the NWS said. - Inland Oregon Weather
Washington Coast (Westport through Long Beach)
Expect sunny days with patchy morning fog and gradually cooling temperatures through midweek. Highs will reach the 70s Sunday, climb to the mid 70s to low 80s Monday, then ease to the upper 60s to mid 70s Tuesday, and settle in the low to mid 60s Wednesday. Winds remain light to moderate, with mostly clear nights and mild lows near 60.
North Oregon Coast (Seaside, Cannon Beach, Pacific City)
Sunny skies and mild temperatures dominate the forecast, with highs near 83 on Sunday, cooling to 79 Monday, 72 Tuesday, and 67 by Wednesday. Winds will be light to moderate, with occasional gusts up to 20 mph Sunday. Patchy morning fog and increasing clouds return midweek, but overall conditions remain calm and pleasant.
Central Oregon Coast (Lincoln City, Newport, Florence)
A stretch of mostly sunny weather continues through midweek with gradually cooling daytime highs. Expect lower 80s on Sunday, dipping to the upper 70s Monday, mid 70s Tuesday, and lower 70s by Wednesday. Morning fog Sunday and increasing clouds at night may add a touch of variety, but overall conditions stay mild and pleasant.
South Oregon Coast
Brookings already soared well into the 90s on Saturday, but should only hit the 80s – maybe low 90s - on Sunday.
Expect sunny skies through Monday with warm daytime temperatures. Highs will range from the mid 70s to mid 80s along the very southern coast, and climb into the mid 80s to mid 90s inland on Sunday, easing slightly Monday. Light winds will shift direction each afternoon, with mostly clear nights and mild lows in the 50s and 60s.
It's a similar set of predictions for areas like Bandon and Coos Bay as well.
Night Sky Drama
The Perseid Meteor showers are approaching their peak, although the full moon definitely interferes with that. However, Oregon Coast Beach Connection staff have seen an amazing amount of satellite activity even with the moon. That includes a massive string of satellites of at least 14 in a row. Your best bet seems to be to the north.
