(Oceanside, Oregon) – This time of year sees the lowest tides of the year on the Oregon coast and one group is helping you check them out in closer detail and in person. Minus tides plunge to around -1.5 feet on some days, which will mean spectacular finds.
Coastal explorers and nature lovers will have the chance to experience Oregon’s vibrant intertidal ecosystems up close this June, as a series of guided tide pool walks coincides with some of the month’s best low tides. Locals and visitors alike are invited to join Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS staff and volunteers on the shores of Oceanside for an immersive experience into the world of marine life.
Scheduled for June 13, 26, 27, and 28, these events offer unique opportunities to uncover the wonders at the water’s edge. Participants will learn firsthand about coastal habitats and the fascinating creatures that inhabit them: from sea stars and hermit crabs to seaweeds and sculpin fish. Highlights include interpretive insights into sea star feeding behaviors, hermit crab shell-stealing antics, and even “anemone clone wars.”
The events are designed to foster connection not only with nature but also with the local community. Organizers emphasize the value of shared discovery among family and friends, all while appreciating the striking natural beauty of the Oceanside shoreline.
Visitors are reminded to dress appropriately for coastal conditions: boots or a change of shoes are recommended, while flip flops are discouraged due to safety concerns. The terrain involves slippery and uneven surfaces, such as seaweed- and barnacle-covered rocks, and may be wet depending on the tide.
Organizers note the inclusive approach of the program, recognizing that outdoor experiences vary for everyone. Attendees with accessibility needs are encouraged to reach out in advance so that accommodations can be made where possible.
Coming This Week: the complete guide to Oregon coast's Fourth of July 2025: Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Pacific City, Lincoln City, Newport, Yachats, Florence, Port Orford, Brookings, Coos Bay, and more.

The events are offered free of charge, but donations are welcomed. Contributions help support the ongoing educational and conservation efforts of the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS. As a non-profit organization, the group relies on donations and grants to sustain its mission and programming.
These tide pool explorations are part of the broader Explore Nature series - an initiative led by local non-profit and volunteer groups highlighting Tillamook County’s natural beauty and the community-driven efforts to protect it. From hikes and paddles to interpretive walks, the series promotes environmental awareness and stewardship across the region. MORE OCEANSIDE BELOW:
