Marking the nation’s 250th birthday, the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Florence, and the Port of Siuslaw are again partnering to present a lineup of family activities, contests, music, and a signature fireworks show over Historic Old Town.

The day begins with the Florence Kiwanis Club’s Bike Parade at 10 a.m., starting at Hemlock and First Streets and ending at the Port parking lot. Families are invited to decorate bikes, scooters, wagons, strollers, and even pets in red, white, and blue. Participation is free.

One of the event’s most popular traditions—the pie-eating and watermelon-eating contests—returns at the Port of Siuslaw near Nopal and Bay Streets. Hosted this year by the City of Dunes City, registration runs from 11 a.m. to noon, with contests beginning immediately afterward. Age divisions include 5–10, 11–15, and 16 and older, with each category capped at 36 participants.

“Our contests are back and ready for another year of laughs, competition, and sticky smiles,” said Bettina Hannigan, president and CEO of the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce. “Whether you’re competing or cheering from the sidelines, this is one of Florence’s most entertaining holiday traditions.”

Live music will fill Historic Old Town throughout the day, and Coast Radio KCST 106.9 FM will broadcast synchronized music during the evening fireworks show.

The fireworks display, produced by Western Display Fireworks, launches from the east end of the Port of Siuslaw Campground. The 30-minute show is visible from multiple vantage points along the riverfront, with reflections lighting up the Siuslaw River.

Residents and businesses can also take part in the 4th of July Porch Parade, sponsored by Florence Habitat for Humanity. Locations registered between June 1 and July 2 will be included on a community map available at the Habitat ReStore.

“This whole weekend embodies the spirit of small-town America and offers families a chance to celebrate Independence Day together in a safe, welcoming, and scenic setting,” Hannigan said.

Visitors are encouraged to extend their stay and explore Florence’s beaches, Old Town shops, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, and other coastal attractions. Details are available at FlorenceFun.com.
