(Bay City, Oregon) – Little Bay City on the north Oregon coast is really returning to its roots.
A two-day celebration honoring Native American Heritage Month will take place there November 6 - 7, 2026, at the Bay City Arts Center, 5680 A Street in Bay City. Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS, Bay City Arts Center, and Tillamook Pioneer Museum are partnering to host a series of cultural events featuring Indigenous artists, businesses, and educators.
It's the kind of roots that go deep – far back into tribal times and traditions of the area.
Bay City Arts Center opens the weekend with its Artist of the Month Gallery Opening on Friday, November 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to view work by Native American artists Kitana Connelly of Twahna Creation, Amanda Freeman of Ampkwa Images, and Leonard Harmon of Leonard Harmon Fine Art. Guests can meet the artists, explore the exhibit, and take part in an evening celebrating Indigenous creativity. No registration is required.

Festivities continue Saturday, November 7, with the 2026 Native American Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market will feature Native American-owned businesses offering food, teas, beadwork, abstract art, and other handmade goods. Organizers say the event provides a chance to support Indigenous entrepreneurs while experiencing a wide range of cultural expression. Admission is free, and visitors may stop by at any time during market hours.
A special presentation, “Traditional Ecological Knowledge on the Oregon Coast,” will also take place Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Bay City Arts Center auditorium. Molly Leno, Co-Executive Director of Rooted Ways, and Stephanie Craig, founder of Kalapura Weaving & Consulting and Co-Executive Director of Rooted Ways, will discuss the lifeways of the Tillamook people and the deep relationships between land, culture, and community resilience. The talk will introduce Traditional Ecological Knowledge as a living system rooted in reciprocity and long-term stewardship. Cultural items such as baskets, plant materials, and weaving displays will be available for viewing. Registration is required, and space is limited. Details are available at Netartsbaywebs.org/events.
“Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS, Bay City Arts Center, and Tillamook Pioneer Museum are grateful to the guest presenters, artists, and vendors who are generously sharing their knowledge, skills, creativity, and handmade products with the community,” organizers said. “Together, these events offer an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous artistry, learn about the rich cultural heritage of the Oregon Coast, and deepen our understanding of the connections between people, place, and the natural world.”
All events are free, though donations are welcomed. Questions may be directed to info@netartsbaywebs.org. Netartsbaywebs.org/events.
