Storm season has kicked in, baby. Shakespeare would love all the oceanic drama to be found this weekend on the Oregon coast and Washington coast.
Indeed, one of the region's storm wave icons is likely - you read right – likely to go firing off. See Waves Up To 28 Feet Sunday: Various Surf, Wind Alerts Oregon and Washington Coast
So sayeth Janice Langlinais, head of the Coos Bay / North Bend / Charleston visitors center and chamber.
“There is a very high chance that there will be some nice wave action on Sunday at Shore Acres State Park,” Langlinais told Oregon Coast Beach Connection. “But as we always caution our visitors, never turn your back on the ocean and always be wave aware. If you’re on the beaches, stay off logs and jetties because there is also a high chance of sneaker waves this weekend all along the Oregon coast.”
With 16 to 27-foot waves expected along the region Sunday, Shore Acres is set to hit high gear. It generally needs at least 16-foot waves to get all splashy and crazy. This storm meets that benchmark.
The National Weather Service said high tide is in and around noon. They've even suggested you might stay off beaches entirely.
Also set to likely go bonkers is Cape Disappointment at Ilwaco, Washington. Those cliffs and seabed – like Shore Acres – just draw the big ones in.
WHERE ELSE TO GO STORM WATCHING?
Stick to high vantage points that are above rocky areas.
Depoe Bay is perfect for this, with large waves making mincemeat out of those basalt slabs. Meanwhile, you're watching from the safety of a concrete wall.
Then there's the town’s famous spouting horn. This watery wonder is the result of a long, thin rocky formation that compresses the water into a geyser-like shot into the air. It’s quite an amusing kick in the pants to find you have to turn on your windshield wipers because you just got doused by a rocky formation 30 feet below you.
Yachats’ beaches are one long tract of rocky basalt and wonders, with jagged or bubbly basalt structures as far as the eye can see. Just behind the southern part of downtown Yachats sits another tiny blowhole and a front row seat to more crazed breakers. Yachats

Cape Meares, west of Tillamook, can be mind-boggling as immense breakers come barreling in from the sea and look frighteningly high from even this vantage point. The same is true with the colossal waves you can spot around Cape Falcon and Short Sand Beach - as seen from the viewpoints above Manzanita and just below Neahkahnie Mountain. These are at times chilling to watch rumbling through the cove towards the beach. Even a half mile away you can tell they're scary-big – given the right conditions. Pacific City has a fantastic vantage point from its main parking lot at Cape Kiwanda, and the cape always creates a prime target for exploding waves. At times, they hit the other side with such ferocity they can be seen from the southern side, from the parking lot.
On the south coast, Bandon's rocky spires create impressive crashes. Many areas around Humbug Mountain or along the Samuel H. Boardman host massive sea stacks that provide major white cap eruptions.

In the middle of bucolic forestland and farmland just outside of Manzanita. Rustic, upscale and a tad mysterious. Just outside Cannon Beach
