(Astoria, Oregon) – A handful of key infrastructure projects are moving forward along the Oregon coast this fall, with Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) sending out a few updates on work getting done in Astoria, Tillamook and Lincoln City. Some are nearing completion while others are just getting underway.
One of the larger traffic headaches this year is over and done with, ODOT was happy to announce: the Skipanon River Bridge in Astoria.
“We're excited to share that the road is open and work is now complete,” ODOT said. “We appreciated everyone's patience while we made this repair, allowing some heavier vehicles to use it again and keeping it in use for years to come.”
Crews replaced the center portion of the bridge, which required a full closure of OR 104S.
Still more maintenance work is planned for the U.S. 101B Old Youngs Bay Bridge, ODOT said. Crews will replace four timber support beams (caps) and one timber foundation support post (pile) beneath the bridge.
With the traveler season mostly over for the Oregon coast, work will be ramping up. While the start date is still pending, travelers can expect the following once work begins:
- Single lane closures Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Up to four full daytime bridge closures with detours spaced about two weeks apart
- Construction noise and traffic delays

There is more in store for U.S. 101 on the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Another run of work is scheduled to begin in mid-November, with crews preparing the site in early November. The project will replace damaged bridge bearings, which allow the bridge to flex and move safely with temperature changes and traffic. Most of the work will take place below the bridge, but for safety, daily lane closures will be necessary.
Drivers should expect:
- Daytime single lane closures Monday through Thursday and until noon on Fridays
- Flaggers directing traffic
- A temporary work platform under the bridge
- Construction noise and delays

Preservation work on the Tillamook River Bridge on OR 131 is nearing completion, with final tasks expected to wrap up by mid-November. Crews have been performing concrete repairs, installing bridge joints, and conducting other maintenance to keep the bridge in good condition.

Travelers and river users should be aware of the following:
- Daytime work Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Lane closures with temporary traffic signals
- A hard barrier blocking the westbound lane
- Construction noise and delays
- Reduced river channel access beneath the bridge

Drivers are urged to use caution, especially on the curved road where visibility is limited. The westbound lane remains closed 24/7, with a temporary signal directing traffic.

In Lincoln City, accessibility improvements are underway along U.S. 101 between NE West Devils Lake Road and Salishan Hills Drive. Crews are installing new ADA-compliant curb ramps, repainting crosswalks, and paving to improve pedestrian safety. With Halloween approaching, pedestrian areas are being readied for trick-or-treaters. During construction, expect:
- Daytime work Monday through Thursday, with occasional Friday and night shifts
- Shoulder and lane closures, some lasting through weekends starting November 7
- Flaggers managing traffic
- Loud and dusty conditions from concrete cutting
- Businesses to remain open throughout construction
Travelers are reminded to stay alert and drive carefully through all active work zones.
