(Astoria, Oregon) – Now on tap in one north Oregon coast town: beer and coffee that celebrate a major landmark.
Two of Astoria's famed beverage makers are joining in the party that honors the 100th anniversary of the Astoria Column, but doing so in unique ways. Buoy Beer Company and Astoria Coffee Company - long woven into the fabric of the community - have each crafted limited-edition blends that salute the landmark’s century of watching over the Columbia River and chronicling regional history. The two slingers of exceptional liquid yumminess have moved more culinary boundaries.
Buoy Beer Co., located along the Astoria waterfront, is rolling out a commemorative version of its award-winning Czech Pilsner. Brewed with traditional Pilsen malt and Czech Saaz hops, the special release highlights the classic, clean profile that has defined the style for generations. Notes of biscuit, fresh bread dough, black pepper, honey, and bergamot give the beer a crisp finish - an homage, they said - best enjoyed with a view of the river below, much like the Column itself.
Across town, Astoria Coffee Company is celebrating with its own tribute: the Column Centennial Blend. The small-batch roaster, founded in 1993 and now operated by Peter Aiken and Sara Moot, sourced premium mountain-grown coffees from Latin America and Indonesia to create a full-bodied blend with sweet and subtly spicy notes. The pair crafted the roast to reflect the endurance and character of the monument.

“We love sending tourists to the Column for the beautiful views and the chance to launch balsa planes from the top,” said co-owner Peter Aiken. “Creating this Centennial Blend is our way of honoring a landmark that shapes both our skyline and our community’s story.”
Both centennial releases will be available throughout the summer. The Column Centennial Blend can be found at Astoria Coffee Company’s storefront at 304 37th Street and is also available for shipping within the continental U.S. Buoy Beer’s special-edition Czech Pilsner will be offered on tap and in cans at the Buoy Beer Co. Taproom at 1343 Duane Street, just steps from the downtown festivities.

The public is invited to join the Astoria Column Centennial Celebration on July 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Astoria, featuring live entertainment, food, cultural exhibits, and more.
About the Astoria Column:
Standing 125 feet tall, the Astoria Column was dedicated in 1926 and remains one of Oregon’s most cherished historic landmarks. Its hand-applied sgraffito mural—the only one of its kind in the world—depicts pivotal chapters in Pacific Northwest history, from Indigenous heritage to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The Column is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and continues to draw visitors from around the world.
