(Cannon Beach, Oregon) – Shortly, just after the mad rush of travelers and Labor Day starts to wear off, it will be Second Summer. This is actually when the Oregon coast is at its warmest (usually). More blue skies, less winds and beaches that feel somewhat heated up are more the norm. (Nantucket West)

Yet even September has its massive crowds, now that most seem to know the area's lingering meteorological secret, and finding places to stay in early September can be problematic. Especially vacation rentals.

That's doubly so in Cannon Beach.

Luckily, one of the rental firms there still has a couple of openings in the month of Second Summer, which includes stretches in early September. Beachcomber Vacation Homes has said these do require a three-night minimum. You may also want to confirm any openings by calling 855-219-4758 as they may change. 855-219-4758. 503-436-4500. Nantucket West has some openings in September – hosting eight folks.

This one offers a serene escape just minutes from the heart of Cannon Beach. Slightly more in the north section of town, it's a close walk to the downtown beach accesses, and not too far from the deserted northern stretch towards Chapman Point, where hardly any other souls wander.

It's a spacious four-bedroom, three-bathroom home is tucked into a quiet neighborhood within easy walking distance of local shops, parks, and the shoreline.

Inside, you are welcomed by a warm entry hall with wood flooring, nautical artwork, and a comely little bench.

At the end of the hall, an immaculate kitchen awaits, outfitted with granite countertops, a stainless steel refrigerator, and an electric stovetop. A central island doubles as a breakfast bar, perfect for casual meals or morning coffee. Adjacent to the kitchen, the dining room overlooks a lush backyard, while the living room offers a stone fireplace, skylights, and a large TV - an ideal space for unwinding after a day bouncing around the beaches.

In the back area, a generous deck hosts a hot tub beneath a charming gazebo, and a fire pit invites memory-making, camp-style evenings.

Amenities include: hot tub, kitchen, laundry, non-smoking, outdoor grill, patio, satellite or cable TV. Nantucket West 855-219-4758. 503-436-4500.

Elliott Way Cottage offers a quiet retreat just minutes from the north Oregon coast's famed Haystack Rock, tucked away behind a peaceful residential neighborhood. This three-bedroom, two-bathroom home sleeps six and welcomes guests with a white picket fence, lush landscaping, and a gated entry that opens to a spacious backyard designed for family gatherings.

Inside, the two-story cottage features hardwood floors and two distinct living areas. It is truly individualistically decorated, with its own take on spry colors and upbeat vibes.

The main living room is filled with natural light from a wall of windows and includes oversized couches, a flat-screen TV, and a cozy gas stove. Across the entryway, the dining area seats eight and connects to a bright, fully equipped kitchen with direct access to the backyard deck.

The primary bedroom is located on the first floor and includes a king-sized bed and flat-screen TV, with a full bathroom just across the hall. Also on this level is a second living room ideal for children, featuring another TV, gas stove, and double doors leading to the patio. Two guest bedrooms are located upstairs.

Amenities include: kitchen, laundry, non-smoking, outdoor grill, parking, patio, satellite or cable TV, backyard, fire pit, desk/workspace. Elliott Way Cottage 855-219-4758. 503-436-4500

All this is a quick walk to the town's most famous structure, but it's also a zippy ride to Seaside or to secretive Arch Cape to the south.
