Here is a roundup from various recent emergency calls on the Oregon coast:

On Friday, October 16, Tillamook Bay Fire & Rescue received a call of a hiker in distress on Kings Mountain Trail on the north Oregon coast. Crews responded around 5 p.m., rescuing the injured individual who suffered from a broken ankle.

With assistance from Adventist Health Tillamook medics, they located the patient near the 2,560-foot elevation level. After stabilizing the patient and securing them in a Stokes litter, rescuers carried the individual to the trailhead, arriving about 10:40 p.m. Authorities credited the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office and Tillamook 911 for supporting the lengthy rescue operation and wished the patient a smooth recovery.

“We are especially proud of our volunteer firefighters, whose commitment, training, and service make difficult rescues like this possible,” the agency said.

In the early morning hours of October 23, the Manzanita Department of Public Safety and Tillamook County Sheriff's Office investigated a reported threat involving schools in the Neah-Kah-Nie School District. As a precaution, schools were placed in a "lock-in" status while authorities investigated.

Personnel determined the threat was not credible, and schools resumed normal operations.

“The safety of the children and the staff is our biggest priority, and I am very proud of the quick and efficient response of our law enforcement. I am incredibly thankful for the positive outcome of this situation, “ said Sheriff Joshua Brown.

No further action was taken.

Several Lincoln County fire agencies responded Monday night, October 19, to assist with a house fire near Seal Rock. The Yachats Rural Fire Protection District was dispatched shortly before 10 p.m. to help the Seal Rock Fire District, along with additional support from Central Coast Fire & Rescue, Newport Fire Department and East Lincoln Fire. No injuries were reported.

“This aligns with the strong mutual-aid across Lincoln County agencies, where multi-company responses are common for structure fires,” said the agency.

A Eugene man was arrested last week after allegedly rear-ending a Lane County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle and leading deputies on a pursuit, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 2 p.m. October 21 near the intersection of Delta Highway and Beltline Highway while a sheriff's sergeant was stopped at a traffic light.

Investigators said the driver, identified as 35-year-old Christopher Paul Haxby, attempted to flee southbound before stopping in the Valley River Mall parking lot. Deputies determined Haxby was driving with suspended privileges and showed signs of intoxication. He was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges including DUII, attempting to elude by vehicle, hit-and-run, reckless driving and reckless endangering.

The sergeant was not injured and has returned to duty.

The two most high-profile emergency stories in recent weeks were the fire in Newport this week that caused evacuations and last week's encounter in Hammond with a murder suspect from Clackamas County.
