(Neskowin, Oregon) - Tucked away in a rugged forestland of Oregon’s north coast, just out of view, there's little that's revealed when you first whiz past Neskowin. It looks more like a lovely rest stop on the way elsewhere. Behind all that, however, is a wild chunk of sand and surf that rather explodes in front of you as you wander into its accesses.
The place has got its secrets – not the least of which is that engaging ghost forest, or the rather unknown northern shoreline, where grains of sand are unusually large.
In the midst of all that, one getaway has been drawing attention in recent years, much of it for its blend of modern design and immersive coastal experience.
Proposals Landescape sits here in this quiet – even secretive - seaside community, offering a high-end retreat that is markedly different from many in the area.
And yet somehow it's open this week in the middle of August. At least this week it is (until the 24th). The lovely place takes up to six guests, and lets you to engage with sweeping views of the Pacific and provides direct access to the iconic Proposal Rock.
Designed with both comfort and creativity in mind, the three-bedroom, three-bath home is a showcase of eye-popping amenities and architectural elegance. The top floor features panoramic ocean views, a cozy library nook, heated floors, and a gas fireplace, all framed by vaulted ceilings and expansive windows. Perhaps its most stunning feature is that semi-circle of glass gazing out onto Neskowin's intriguing sands.
An oversized deck with a private spa and gas BBQ invites everyone to unwind just steps from the shoreline.
The primary suite opens directly onto the deck and spa, offering luxury linens, heated bathroom floors, and uninterrupted views of the surf. Upstairs, a guest room includes a queen bed and built-in captain’s bed, with an adjacent full bath. A spiral staircase leads to the lower-level suite, which can be fully closed off for privacy. It includes a king bed, soaking tub, laundry, and a dedicated workspace.
Families or groups seeking space to spread out will appreciate the downstairs game room, equipped with a flat-screen TV, Peloton bike (BYO shoes), games, toys, books, and art supplies - ideal for quiet time or creative play. Due to its layout, however, the home is not suitable for children under five.
The open-concept great room upstairs includes a chef’s kitchen outfitted with Bosch appliances, propane cooking, premium cookware, and both Nespresso and Keurig coffee options. A large island with bar seating and a custom sectional sofa make it a natural gathering spot for meals, conversation, and ocean gazing.
Proposal Rock itself and the ghost forest are rather famous, but for a rush of something new head to the very northern accesses at the end of town and discover an unusually chill beach. The feeling of absolute calm is somewhat legendary here, and it borders on the paranormal. Maybe it's the fact there's no one else around and this beach's slight slope into the breakers creates an especially soothing, sonic embrace. Or maybe it's something in the air.
Or maybe it's because the granules of sand are strangely enormous, and this makes you notice your surroundings more? It's simply one of those things you'll have to experience yourself. That soaring vacation rental home helps, but it's not the only week this place is available. Make sure you look into the possibilities later in the year as well.
