The city, known for its seven miles of public beach, sweeping ocean views, wildlife, and popular events such as Finders Keepers and the Kite Festival, expects a busy season. Explore Lincoln City says the same rugged coastal environment that draws visitors also requires awareness.

“This isn’t a theme park - it’s nature doing its thing,” the agency noted, encouraging travelers to enjoy the coast while staying mindful of changing conditions.

Explore Lincoln City outlined several reminders ahead of the holiday weekend.

BEACH AND WATER SAFETY
Officials warn that ocean conditions can shift quickly, and sneaker waves remain a year-round hazard. Visitors are urged to stay alert, avoid turning their backs on the surf, and keep clear of driftwood logs, which can become unstable when waterlogged. Rocks and jetties are also slippery and unpredictable.

POSTED SIGNS
Warning signs, fences, and restricted areas are in place for public safety. Visitors are asked to stay on designated trails and avoid crossing barriers.

The US Coast Guard and other local Oregon coast rescue agencies have had to respond to various incidents atop God's Thumb at the northern edges of town. WILDLIFE AND PETS
Deer, elk, seals, sea lions, and tidepool species should be observed from a distance. Pets must remain leashed on beaches and trails to protect both wildlife and people.

FIRES AND FIREWORKS
Beach fires are allowed on open sand away from vegetation and driftwood. Officials emphasize using water - not sand - to fully extinguish fires. Fireworks are prohibited on Lincoln City beaches. The city encourages visitors to attend the official Fourth of July show at Devil’s Lake.

STEWARDSHIP
Visitors are asked to pack out trash, respect natural spaces, and help keep the coastline clean.

“At the end of the day, it’s up to each of us to be mindful of our surroundings, aware of our actions, and respectful of this incredible place,” said Kim Cooper Findling, director of Explore Lincoln City. “Lincoln City isn’t a theme park - there are no guardrails or training wheels - but that’s part of what makes it so special.”
