New Mural in Lincoln City a Vibrant, Vivid Piece, Likely Another Oregon Coast Classic

(Lincoln City, Oregon) – There's a new wild bird in town – on the central Oregon coast. A fantastic, colorful creature. Indeed, there's a few of them.

It's part of a new mural in Lincoln City, one celebrating native wildlife and coastal landscapes, and just added to the Lincoln City Art Trail. It marks the latest feature at Schooner Creek Discovery Park. “Nature’s Meeting Spot,” created by the nonprofit studio PangeaSeed and painted by artist Jeremy Nichols, brings a vivid, sunset-inspired palette to one of the city’s newest public gathering spaces.

It's bound to become a classic, not unlike the gigantic one at Newport.

The installation highlights species commonly found along the Oregon coast, including great blue heron, osprey, coho and Chinook salmon, Dungeness crab, eulachon, silverspot butterfly, Roosevelt elk, and great egret. Its location at Schooner Creek underscores the waterway’s role in the community: the 20-square-mile watershed supplies drinking water and provides critical spawning habitat for salmon, steelhead, and other native fish.

Kim Cooper Findling, director of Explore Lincoln City, said the mural reflects the city’s connection to its natural surroundings and its collaborative arts community. She described the piece as a welcoming addition that encourages residents and visitors to engage with local wildlife, creativity, and sense of place.

“It's a wonderful reminder that public art can inspire curiosity, spark connection, and deepen appreciation for the landscapes we call home,” she said.

“Nature’s Meeting Spot” joins more than 30 public artworks featured on the Lincoln City Art Trail, a free digital passport guiding users to murals, sculptures, mosaics, and other installations across town.

The mural is part of Phase 2 of the Schooner Creek Discovery Park project, an ongoing effort to build an inclusive and engaging community space. Phase 1 opened earlier this year with the Oregon coast’s first inclusive playground. The current phase will add an entry plaza, promenade, event stage, lawn with hearing loops, and ADA-accessible, gender-neutral restrooms with a universal changing table.

When complete, the park will offer landscaped areas for gathering and recreation, along with commemorative pavers and a donor wall recognizing community support.

Lincoln City’s arts scene extends beyond the trail, with glass-blowing studios, co-op galleries, and year-round public art events centered around the Lincoln City Cultural Center, home to exhibitions, classes, performances, and seasonal festivals.

The mural was funded through the Lincoln City Percent for Art program and selected through a collaborative process involving Explore Lincoln City, Parks and Recreation, the Public Arts Committee, and the Parks and Recreation Board.
