(Florence, Oregon) - The skies over Heceta Beach will explode with color and ebullient motion soon as Driftwood Shores Resort & Conference Center and Sandmaster Park prepare to host Florence’s four-day Kite Fest. The family-friendly event set for June 22 through June 25. This part of the central Oregon coast will again fill with adoring and awed throngs for the free free event that will turn the oceanfront into a shifting gallery of giant, imaginative kites flown by professional fliers from around the Pacific Northwest.

“We are incredibly excited to bring these kites full of color and local artisans back to Florence,” said Elvira Marvin, event and sales director at Driftwood Shores. She said the festival will offer a full sensory experience, with daytime shows and nighttime digital glow kites lighting up the beach and display areas.

Along with acrobatic, aerial displays, the festival will feature daily live music, with performance times and groups to be announced on Driftwood’s Facebook page. Artisan vendors will be set up from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day above the Surfside Bistro in the conference center, offering locally crafted goods and artwork. Driftwood’s Surfside Bistro will serve house-smoked brisket and pulled-pork sandwiches along with refreshments and new menu selections from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Sandmaster Park – the grand daddy of sandboarding - will also host a special sand-sledding demonstration for kids on the dunes near the resort.

Marvin said visitors planning to make a getaway of the event can book oceanfront rooms by calling Driftwood Shores at 541-997-8263.

“Every room is oceanfront so guests can view the kites from their own guest room deck or patio,” she said.

Three Rivers Casino Resort will provide free parking and shuttle service from noon to 6 p.m. each day, with shuttles running every half hour.

For more information, schedule updates or lodging availability, visitors can contact the Driftwood Shores Sales and Events department at 541-902-6488 or visit the resort’s Facebook page.

Driftwood Shores Resort & Conference Center, is located at 88416 1st Avenue in Florence.
