A Sunny, Warm Week on Oregon Coast, Highs 70s - 80s Some Areas

(Newport, Oregon) – If you're looking for a dose of the legendary “second summer” on the Oregon coast, this is the week. Indeed, much of Oregon is looking at October being more summerlike than late September was. Temps hit the 80s for inland areas and parts of the south coast, while most beach towns get near or into the 70s. (Above: Cape Perpetua / Oregon Coast Beach Connection)

As the National Weather Service (NWS) put it: “No signal for widespread precipitation for the next 7-10 days.”

On the northern third of the coast, it gets sunnier and sunnier. Highs along the north Oregon coast run near 60 on Wednesday, warming into the mid-60s from Thursday through the weekend. Winds stay mostly light, with only gentle north or variable breezes each afternoon. By the weekend, Astoria is quite sunny and in the 70s.

The farther south you get – such as areas around Newport, Florence and Lincoln City – you're looking at 70-degree ranges.

The forecast is a bit more like that in areas around Coos Bay or Reedsport, but Curry County beaches get glorious. Forecasts from the NWS show daytime highs run in the upper 70s to around 81 through Saturday before easing into the mid-70s early next week. Winds stay light in the mornings but regularly rise to north or north-northeast breezes around 10–16 mph each afternoon, with occasional gusts in the low-20s.

The NWS office in Medford said that's the trend for most of southern Oregon.

“Heights will subtly build through the week, bringing a warming trend in afternoon temperatures starting Wednesday,” the Medford office said. “High temperatures will hover around 5-10 degrees above normal through the rest of the week, which brings mid-upper 80s for the West Side and upper 70s/low 80s for the East.”

Up north, the Portland office of the NWS said to expect similar things for that region into southwest Washington.

“Dry weather returns on Wednesday and will continue through at least Sunday,” the Portland office said. “The interior lowland are expected see temperatures in the low to mid 70s tomorrow and the mid to upper 70s for Thursday and Friday. Temperatures then warm to the upper 70s to low 80s for Saturday and Sunday for the interior lowlands, with upper 60s to low 70s along the coast and terrain. By Monday, the vast majority of ensemble members indicate the ridge axis shifts east of WA and OR, allowing temperatures to begin lowering again into the 70s for the interior valleys with dry weather continuing.”
