(Seaside, Oregon) – Oregon State Police (OSP) have released information on the serious crash that tied up traffic near Seaside for four hours on Saturday, following an information request from Oregon Coast Beach Connection.
OSP said troopers were dispatched to milepost 24 at 1:37 p.m. on July 25 with reports of a two-vehicle collision and injuries.
According to investigators, a northbound pickup crossed into oncoming traffic on U.S. 101 Saturday afternoon, injuring both drivers and closing the highway for four hours.
Witnesses on social media describe numerous emergency vehicles and heart-wrenching scenes.
OSP investigators reported that an 82-year-old driver, Dwight M. Matson, was traveling north in a gray Toyota Tundra when the truck crossed the center line and struck a southbound blue Subaru Crosstrek driven by Mary F. Garvey, 64.

Garvey was flown by Life Flight to OHSU with serious injuries. Matson was taken by ambulance to Providence Seaside Hospital.
Oregon Coast Highway 101 / Coast Range Traffic
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene by Classic Towing out of Astoria for further analysis. The highway was affected for roughly four hours while an OSP crash reconstructionist conducted the investigation.
