(Astoria, Oregon) – Plan for some bridge closures on the north Oregon coast tomorrow, after a last-minute change in Astoria.
Other minor work around the Oregon coast continues as well, but not all has a traffic impact.
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced today it will fully close the New Youngs Bay Bridge on U.S. 101 tomorrow, July 29, to apply a surface treatment aimed at extending the life of the pavement. Crews will begin work at 10 a.m., with the bridge expected to reopen by 2 p.m. once the treatment dries. The closure affects both lanes and is intended to speed up completion and provide a safer environment for workers.
A signed detour will direct traffic to U.S. 101B, and drivers should prepare for delays and construction noise. ODOT advises checking TripCheck.com for real-time updates, as the schedule remains subject to change.
Elsewhere in the Astoria area, repairs to the Skipanon River Bridge on OR 104S continue, requiring daytime road closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Detours are in place via OR 104, E Harbor Drive, Marlin Avenue, and U.S. 101.

Along the Oregon coast, ongoing improvements include repaving U.S. 101 in Lincoln City between SE 40th Street and SE 123rd Street. Drivers can expect weekday lane shifts or single-lane closures with flaggers assisting traffic flow.

In Tillamook County, repainting of the Tillamook River Bridge on OR 131 involves a continuous westbound lane closure, regulated by temporary traffic signals. In Garibaldi, urban upgrades are underway on U.S. 101, focusing on road reconstruction and sidewalk improvements.
On OR 6, crews are enhancing roadside barriers for improved safety.
ODOT has cautioned that its ability to maintain roadways may be affected by a growing funding shortfall. Budget constraints have led to staff reductions and canceled maintenance projects. Without new revenue sources, the agency expects continued cutbacks to preserve core operations.
