Oregon coast on the downlow (rates, that is), in Lincoln City and Cannon Beach

Along come four inns of particular style and grace: three in Lincoln City and one in Cannon Beach. There, the utterance of “cheap” isn't just a noise birds make: these rates are downright low during midweek. And that, after all, is the best way to see the Oregon coast: while no one else is around and the storms are often raging.

Way in the back of the historic Taft District of Lincoln City, right across from scenic Siletz Bay and its multitude of stranded logs, the Looking Glass Inn is a charming Cape Cod-style retreat just steps from this famed central Oregon coast beach. Upscale and a bit towering, The Shearwater Inn in Lincoln City offers up eye-popping ocean views from practically downtown. At the northern end of Lincoln City, Pelican Shores Inn offers everyone a stunning view of the rolling surf, perched atop a rather hidden stretch of sands. It's one of the area’s more secluded parts and you have your own set of steps down. At night, the surf is lighted for a truly unique Oregon coast experience. For an inexpensive taste of Cannon Beach, at its southern end sits The Wayside Inn. Overlooking the Tolovana area's parking lot and beach, you get quite the oceanic eyeful.
