(North Bend, Oregon) – A quiet little south Oregon coast town will throttle up to a bit of a roar this summer. It's like the party that can only happen every 123 years.
North Bend will mark its 123rd birthday July 17 - 19, 2026, with a full weekend of July Jubilee events ranging from live music and family activities to the popular Sip N Stroll, the Mustang and Ford Club Show ’n Shine, multiple Little Ole Opry performances, a 5K run, and a disc golf tournament. The celebration brings together local businesses, performers, and community groups for three days of festivities, song and yumminess across town.
Friday features card games and live music at the library, followed by the city’s kick-off celebration, Honored Citizen Awards, and the evening Sip N Stroll downtown.
Saturday's south Oregon coast hospitality brings a full slate of activity with the Mustang and Ford Club Show ’n Shine, the July Jubilee Jaunt 5K, a disc golf tournament, and family events at Pony Village Mall.
Sunday offers a guided historic walking tour through North Bend to close out the weekend’s festivities.

Not long after European settlers began moving into the region in the 1850s, J.C. Tolman named one of the earliest settlements Marshfield, borrowing the name from his Massachusetts hometown. The very first settlement, however, was Empire City, founded in 1853. Marshfield officially incorporated in 1874, and in 1903 Louis Simpson (yes, the same Simpson behind the mansion at Shore Acres) established the town of North Bend.
Each frontier community grew quickly as timber, fishing, and shipping turned the bay - now known as Coos Bay - into a thriving commercial hub.

Population booms arrived in the 1930s as new roads, Highway 101, and the rise of automobiles brought rapid development. By 1935, this momentum sparked interest in consolidating Marshfield and North Bend, an idea supported by Marshfield mayor Charles H. Huggins and Oregon governor Charles Martin. The governor even asked state officials to conduct a study on the proposal.
But in 1935, North Bend’s city council rejected the consolidation effort. The idea couldn’t go to a public vote anyway, since state law required the towns to be physically connected - and at the time, a strip of unincorporated land still separated them.
