(Newport, Oregon) – Get ready for a little sizzle on the central coast. The Newport Performing Arts Center (NPAC) pulls out all the plugs in late summer.
Oregon Coast Council for the Arts is rolling out a two-night jazz showcase in early August, bringing Grammy-nominated Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo to Newport and its NPAC for a pair of performances alongside rising West Coast talent.
The weekend opens Saturday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Alice Silverman Theatre with Ella & the Bossa Beat joining Figueiredo for a program built around Brazilian jazz and bossa nova.
“It’s a celebration of bossa nova, rhythm, and groove in the central Oregon coast’s premier performance space,” said organizers. “Ella & the Bossa Beat bring irresistible warmth and soul to everything they touch, and paired with Figueiredo’s dazzling guitar mastery, this promises to be a concert that the coast will be talking about for years to come.

Figueiredo returns Sunday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. for a smaller, close-range set inside the David Ogden-Stiers Studio Theatre. The studio’s limited seating and tight layout are designed to give audiences a near-front-row experience with a musician well known to Oregon Coast Jazz Party regulars.
Tickets are $40, or $36 for OCCA members, available at the box office, by phone at 541-265-ARTS, or online at coastarts.org/diego. Online purchases include an additional fee.
Both concerts take place at the Newport Performing Arts Center, 777 W. Olive Street. Box office hours run Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and one hour before performances. OCCA asks attendees to remain fragrance-free to accommodate guests with sensitivities.
