N. Oregon Coast Rescuers: 'Miraculous Day' After Capsized Boat Incident Ends Well

(Netarts, Oregon) - Friday was a miraculous day, said the Netarts-Oceanside Fire District, after gnarly day of at least one rescue on the north Oregon coast. Luckily, they all ended without injuries, the agency said.

A family of five was thrown into the water of Netarts Bay when their boat capsized, but all were wearing life vests, which NOFD said made the difference. Nearby boaters reached them within moments and pulled the family to safety.

Tillamook EMS evaluated the children for hypothermia, while crews from U.S. Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay, the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, and volunteers from Netarts-Oceanside Fire District worked to recover the vessel. Responders towed the overturned boat, filled it with compressed air, and assisted the owner in flipping it upright before securing it back onto its trailer.

The fire district said the outcome underscores the importance of wearing life vests, noting that the family escaped unharmed thanks to that simple precaution.
