(Grays Harbor, Washington) – A pair of kiteboarders needed rescue on the central Washington coast Tuesday night, bringing out the US Coast Guard (USCG) to Grays Harbor.
The two were swept out to sea near Damon Point in Grays Harbor County, the USCG said.
The Coast Guard rescued two kiteboarders Tuesday evening after they were swept out to sea near Damon Point in Grays Harbor County.
Sector Columbia River watchstanders received a report around 8 p.m. from Grays Harbor Communications 911 Center that two people had been carried offshore. A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew and a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Grays Harbor were launched, along with an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Astoria.
“After battling low cloud ceilings and poor visibility for 25 minutes, the aircrew spotted a woman stranded on a sandbar and hoisted her to safety,” the USCG said. “The Jayhawk crew was then notified by the Ocean Shores Police Department that a second person was stranded on a rock jetty. The crew located the man and hoisted him from the rocks to safety. “

“Two hours is a long time in that wind and water, and they stayed with it,” said Lt. Cmdr. Alex Cardenas, search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Columbia River. “Dispatch relayed the call quickly and the aircrew flew a tough approach twice in very limited visibility. The two kiteboarders did the hardest part before we ever got overhead.”
Weather during the search included 12-mph winds, 1-foot waves, 58-degree air temperatures and 55-degree water temperatures, the USCG said.

The place came highly recommended from friends, so I figured it was going to be good. But I wasn't prepared for this awesome. I felt soooo at home. Room with a balcony right on the ocean ? that was incredible. It may not be upscale but it's not far from that at all. Went with the family and our favorite thing was sitting in that enclosed area at dusk, watching the Prom and sipping the early evening away. Just gorgeous all around. Will so be back. 4/12/2025
