The U.S. Forest Service and its Siuslaw National Forest agency will begin a major preservation project at the Heceta Head Lightkeeper’s House in October, replacing the entire roof and the front porch on the 1894 structure. The house is a BnB leased out by the USFS as a separate business, and it is the only remaining keepers quarters for an Oregon coast lighthouse.
It is one of a kind in this state, but luckily you can visit and spend the night. In October, that may get a bit noisy and busy, said owner Michelle Korgan.
She said architects and engineers have spent several years developing the plans, which were recently approved. Funding is in place and contractors are scheduled to start work early in the month.
The SNF told Oregon Coast Beach Connection it plans to release additional details in mid-September as the construction window approaches. Current plans call for replacing the roof, gutters, porch, and railing. While the work will affect the site’s ambiance, officials say no closures are expected. Visitors are asked to keep a safe distance from construction activity, they said.
Korgan said visitors should expect noticeable impacts from Oct. 5 - 31. Scaffolding will surround the building, construction crews will be active during daytime hours, and noise and equipment will be present throughout the project. The front porch will be inaccessible for part of the month.

Because the exact timeline is uncertain, Korgan said guests may encounter disruptions to the usual Heceta experience, especially as crews work to finish the roof before the rainy season.
The Heceta Head Bed and Breakfast operates under a Forest Service special use permit, the agency said.

“What won't change: the cozy rooms, our beautifully prepared breakfast, the afternoon wine and cheese, the grounds and the view that attracted you in the first place,” Korgan said. We will still be doing everything we do best: make your time here special. And, now you could witness history in the making!”
Consequently, the BnB is having a bit of a sale on rooms there.

“Because we understand these possible disturbances are not ideal, we are offering 25% off for anyone who wants to book Oct 5-31, 2026. Enter promo code: OCTOBER when making your reservation,” Korgan said.
