(Seaside, Oregon) – A double-homicide suspect running from authorities in Washington tried to hide on the north Oregon coast Wednesday night, and after a confrontation with police and a shut-down of a neighborhood in Seaside the suspect is dead.
Oregon State Police (OSP) said the suspect has been identified as Hayes Miles McCloud (24) of Eatonville, Washington.
“On Wednesday, June 8, 2026, at approximately 1:36 p.m., Oregon State Police received a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for an adult male operating a silver Toyota 4Runner who was wanted on homicide charges out of Washington state and believed to be headed into Oregon,” the agency said.
OSP mobilized a statewide response Wednesday after receiving the alert, wanted for a double-homicide in Pierce County, with the two happening 30 minutes apart.
OSP then sent out an Attempt to Locate notice to agencies across the state. Just after 5 p.m., investigators received information placing the suspect on the northern Oregon coast.
At 6:19 p.m., Seaside police officers located the man inside the vehicle on Sunset Boulevard near Greenway Drive. Officers from Gearhart and Cannon Beach arrived to assist. As police approached, the suspect opened fire. Officers from Gearhart and Cannon Beach returned fire, and the suspect fled.
He was found a short distance away, deceased inside the vehicle. No other injuries were reported.
The confrontation closed down some parts of southern Seaside and caused a shelter-in-place order for a time. Once that was rescinded, many residents were still not able to return to their homes due to the investigation.
Neighbors there reported hearing gunshots.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, the manhunt for McCloud began in the overnight hours in Puyallup, when they responded to a call on Woodland Avenue East, finding a 35-year-old man who was deceased.
Neighbors reported hearing numerous gunshots as well as a vehicle speeding away from the area.
Just after 3 a.m. - a little more than a half hour after the first call – another shooting occurred in Tacoma. The Sheriff's office soon made a connection between the two and the search was on until he ended up in Seaside.
Per standard procedure, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave. Under Oregon’s deadly force protocols established by Senate Bill 111, OSP is leading the investigation with support from the Clatsop County Major Crimes Team.
“The investigation is ongoing,” OSP said about midnight. “No additional information about the incident is available for release at this time. Future updates will be provided by the Clatsop County District Attorney’s Office.”
