Weather Roller Coaster: Oregon and Its Coast Get Rain, Thunder, Then Warms for Holiday Weekend

(Portland, Oregon) - Weather Turns to Fall This Week, Then Switches Back: The fun parts of weather this week are the kooky changes from summer to rainy, even thunder; then as the holiday weekend happens it all clears up again.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said there's another shot at pleasant summer-like weather for the region, and then it dives into some considerable rainfall amounts.

“A significant pattern change begins on Tuesday with a return of cooler temperatures, rain, and breezy southerly winds through the end of the week,” the NWS said. “Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be the
wettest days with also a 10-20% chance for thunderstorms.”

The trend is for drier conditions once the weekend begins, and there's even some 80-degree weather for many inland areas. There remain chances for lingering showers, however, and not just the Oregon coast.

Southern Oregon and the fire-plagued Columbia Gorge areas will get some much-needed rain relief.

North Oregon Coast: clouds begin increasing Monday and by Tuesday temps drops into the low 60s and rain kicks in. Things stay fairly breezy and rainy, with thunderstorms a possibility on Thursday, and then the sun starts to return over the weekend. Lincoln City, Newport, Oceanside, Manzanita, Seaside and south Washington coast all have similar predictions.

Valley: High pressure keeps northwest Oregon and the valley regions warm and dry through Monday before a sharp Tuesday pattern shift brings cooler temperatures, rain, breezy southerly winds, and a midweek peak in wet weather with a slight thunderstorm chance, followed by lingering showers into the weekend. This means Portland / Vancouver Metro area, Salem, Eugene, Silverton, McMinnville, etc.

South Coast: The southern Oregon coast starts warm and mostly sunny Monday before turning cooler and wetter from Tuesday through the end of the week, with highs settling in the low to mid-60s and frequent periods of rain. Forecasts may differ from areas around Gold Beach and Port Orford compared to Bandon and Coos Bay.

Southern Oregon: Dry, windy conditions will raise fire danger in southern Oregon Monday before a midweek shift brings cooler temperatures, a cold front, and periods of light showers through Friday. However, only light scattered showers and cool conditions are expected for Thursday and Friday, and then the areas around Roseburg and Grants Pass warm up again.
