Seaside Fire & Rescue (SFR) said they were called to Tillamook Head Monday for a search that luckily ended well and without injury.

The call came in about 10 p.m. for a hiker who had gone missing on the headland – a stretch which runs several miles between Cannon Beach and Seaside. Responding were two chief officers (3166 and 3162), Engine 3123, Rescue 3156 and UTV 3185.

Fire personnel ascended the trail and coordinated a search effort to reach the hiker’s location. The individual was located after about two hours and was guided back to the parking area without further incident.

Gearhart Fire assisted with a drone, and Seaside Police provided support during the operation.

Officials noted that trail conditions can change quickly after dark and encouraged hikers to plan ahead, carry lights and navigation tools, and let someone know their route and expected return time.

“Know your limits and turn around if conditions become unsafe or you’re unsure of your location,” SFR said. “A little preparation can make a big difference and help ensure everyone makes it home safely. Thank you to all of the responders who worked together to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.”

Earlier this week, just east of the beaches– in Clatsop County - another search went rather well after it began on the southern Oregon coast, according to Clatsop County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).

The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team located a missing Douglas County resident Saturday following a search in the Gnat Creek area. The individual had earlier been reported missing out of Douglas County.

On July 17, a citizen found the person’s vehicle on a network of logging roads and notified authorities. Deputies searched the area that evening, including with K9 Deputy Draco, but did not locate the individual.

SAR teams returned the next day and resumed the search near the vehicle, ultimately finding the missing person nearby. The individual was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation, and family members were notified.

“We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in this successful search, including our deputies, Search and Rescue volunteers, K9 Deputy Draco, and the community member who reported the vehicle,” said the Sheriff's office.
