Fire Personnel, Engines from Oregon Coast Head Out to Fight Fires near Rogue River

(Lincoln City, Oregon) – More personnel and equipment from the Oregon coast have gone out to assist in firefighting efforts around the state as fire season shifts into high gear.

The Lincoln County Fire Defense Board mobilized Strike Team 7 early Friday morning after the Oregon State Fire Marshal requested additional resources for the East Evans Creek Road Fire burning northeast of Rogue River in Jackson County.

They're coming from various parts of the Oregon coast as well as Albany and Harrisburg in the Willamette Valley.

Strike Team 7 includes engines and personnel from Lincoln, Linn and Tillamook counties. The deployment is led by Strike Team Leader Mark Bernt of the Albany Fire Department. Assigned units include Type 1 engines from North Lincoln Fire (E15), Depoe Bay Fire (E22), Albany Fire (RE13), Harrisburg Fire (E41), and Netarts-Oceanside Fire (B72). Albany Fire also provided a task force leader (181).

Altogether, that is 21 firefighters.

The team departed Lincoln County at 8 a.m. and is expected to reach the Medford staging area around 5:30 p.m., where crews will immediately transition to its various operational assignments.

The East Evans Creek Road Fire, which began July 10, has grown rapidly over the past six days and is now estimated at 11,551 acres. Firefighters continue to face difficult conditions as suppression efforts expand. The deployment may last up to 14 days depending on fire behavior and operational needs.

According to US Forest Service as of Saturday night: "There are 63 fires burning in Oregon and Washington on state, tribal and county jurisdictions."

This marks the second time this week that Lincoln County agencies have been activated by the Oregon State Fire Marshal to support the statewide wildfire response. Local crews and apparatus are joining efforts to protect homes, infrastructure and natural resources as fire activity increases across Oregon.

The Fire Defense Board thanked participating agencies for answering the call, noting that the deployment reflects strong mutual-aid partnerships and the commitment of local firefighters to assist communities in need.

Officials urged residents to remain vigilant as fire danger rises, said Lincoln County Fire Defense Board Chair and Depoe Bay Fire Chief Tom Jackson.

“With wildfire activity increasing across the state, we ask everyone to be vigilant and exercise due diligence with any activity that could spark a fire,” Jackson said. “Avoid using equipment that may create sparks during the hottest parts of the day, properly extinguish campfires where permitted, and never discard smoking materials on the ground or from a vehicle.”

Countywide debris-burning bans remain in effect throughout Oregon, as well as the coast.

The board also encouraged the public to keep affected residents and responding crews in mind as the incident continues to unfold.
