(Bandon, Oregon) - Circles in the Sand has returned to Bandon with its newly announced summer 2025 schedule. It started in the spring and runs through mid August. (Photos courtesy Circles in the Sand)
This peaceful and visually captivating event has gained national recognition for its graceful designs, proving that human artistry can enhance the natural beauty of the coastline and not just mar it.
Now more than a decade old, this beloved south Oregon coast tradition took a brief hiatus during the COVID pandemic. Originally a personal creative project by local artist Denny Dyke, it has since evolved into a major attraction - sometimes even exceeding the parking capacity at Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint. Despite its growing popularity, the event remains a deeply calming experience.
Held against the backdrop of iconic Face Rock, Circles in the Sand always takes place in the morning, with most sessions beginning at 9 or 10 a.m. The group notes that the intricate pathways in the sand are typically walkable for about two hours, though the tides ultimately dictate their longevity.
This year's schedule:
Jun 12 - Thu 8am
Jun 13 - Fri 9am
Jun 14 - Sat 9am
Jun 15 - Sun 10am
Jun 27 - Fri 9am
Jun 28 - Sat 9am
Jun 29 - Sun 10am
Jul 12 - Sat 9am
Jul 13 - Sun 9am
Jul 14 - Mon 9am
Jul 15 - Tue 10am
Jul 26 - Sat 9am
Jul 27 - Sun 9am
Jul 28 - Mon 9am
Aug 10 - Sun 8am
Aug 11 - Mon 9am
Aug 12 - Tue 9am
Each session usually runs for four days per week, often kicking off on weekends.

“The times posted on our public schedule are when the artwork will be complete and ready to walk,” organizers explained. “Creating the labyrinths usually starts about two hours before the scheduled Walk time.”
For example, if a session is listed at 8:00 a.m., that marks the time when visitors can begin walking the path. The team starts crafting the design around 6:00 a.m., and nature then decides exactly how long you have to walk them..
Circles in the Sand is happening again this summer

These mesmerizing labyrinths have gained a kind of celebrity status on the coast. What started as one man’s creative endeavor has grown into a collaborative effort involving a skilled team of beach artists and dedicated volunteers. Circles in the Sand began in 2010, and by 2015, Dyke had transformed it into a thriving enterprise - complete with its own calendar, apparel, and unique gift items.
"Dyke first created Circles in the Sand for his own walking meditations," the group said. "He soon became fascinated with the ocean and the ever-changing sand. After three years and hundreds of labyrinths later, the first Dreamfield Labyrinth was created in September 2014."

These intricate designs, also known as “dreamfields,” are detailed and thoughtfully constructed, described by the creators as a “draw.” Organizers suggest setting aside around 20 minutes to fully experience the winding pathways and the serene surroundings of Bandon’s beach. The experience is meant to be immersive, inviting visitors to slow down and embrace a sense of tranquility.
Although Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint was closed for construction for a time, it is now fully back open. Even so, parking there for the event is often too much to handle and you are urged to take the shuttle.
The Fairway Shuttle provides free transportation between the Bandon Community Center (The Barn) and Face Rock Wayside. Visitors should park at the Community Center, where a tall flag marked “Shuttle” will guide them to the pick-up point.
Shuttle service begins 30 minutes before each scheduled walk time, with pick-ups and drop-offs occurring every 15 minutes. Transportation continues for approximately 2.5 to 3 hours after the walk time begins. Dogs are welcome to ride the shuttle. See more Circles in the Sand
