(Coos Bay, Oregon) – One of the standout festivals of the entire coastline is taking place right now. (Above: the Gothard Sisters)
Having started already, the Oregon Coast Music Festival has returned for its 48th season, bringing two weeks of performances and music education to the Coos Bay area – now through July 25. Often called the “Tanglewood of the West Coast,” the festival is the longest-running music event on the Oregon coast and draws more than 80 musicians from around the country.
Concerts and seminars are staged at venues including Shore Acres State Park Garden, the OIMB Boathouse, Mingus Park and Southwest Oregon Community College. Some of them are not just concerts in the park, but they're performances inside some of the state's natural treasures.
The season culminates with three orchestra concerts at Marshfield High School Auditorium, featuring the full 80-member Festival Orchestra.

Maestro Martin Majkut, internationally recognized for his energetic conducting and inventive programming, leads this year’s orchestral performances. Majkut also serves as Music Director of the Rogue Valley Symphony and has appeared with ensembles ranging from the Slovak Philharmonic to Tacoma Opera.
Highlights on this year's schedule include a return appearance by local favorite Aaron Johnson, performing with friends at Wildflour Public House; a cello-and-piano program featuring world-renowned cellist Dace Gregory with pianist Rachel Palen, followed by Swingin’ in the Rain Big Band; and a Shore Acres concert by the Gothard Sisters, whose Celtic-folk blend has earned praise for its vivid and captivating sound.
