The Newport Visual Arts Center and the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts are asking artists to submit workshop proposals for the 29th annual Newport Paper and Book Arts Festival, scheduled for April 23–25, 2026.
The three-day festival, known as NPBAF, celebrates a wide range of creative disciplines including papermaking, surface design, book arts, collage, nature printing, and mixed media. Organizers are seeking proposals for both one-day and two-day workshops from artists across Oregon, its coastline and beyond.
“We welcome new and innovative techniques as well as traditional processes,” said Christina Carlsen, Education and Engagement Director at the Visual Arts Center. “That includes assemblage, dyeing, printing, specialty binding, and paper manipulation, among others.”

Two-day workshops will be held Thursday and Friday, April 23 and 24, while one-day sessions are scheduled for Saturday, April 25. Each workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a midday break from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Artists may submit multiple proposals and are asked to specify their preferred class size. Rooms can accommodate between 8 and 16 students, with final enrollment determined by space availability. Compensation is based on student participation, and instructors will receive a travel stipend, complimentary lunch, room and board assistance for those traveling more than 50 miles, and a materials fee if applicable. Instructors also receive a 10 percent discount on registration should they choose to attend other workshops during the festival.

The deadline to submit proposals is October 29, 2025. Accepted instructors will be notified by mid-November. Full details and submission forms are available at coastarts.org/npbaf.
The Newport Visual Arts Center, operated by the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts, serves as a regional hub for public exhibitions and arts education.
