(Newport, Oregon) – The City of Newport said Fourth of July festivities in the central Oregon coast are a go, as it prepares for a landmark Independence Day celebration this summer, marking the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence. (Photo Oregon Coast Beach Connection)
The big display returns along with a few days of activities.
The city’s fireworks display is scheduled for 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, over Yaquina Bay. The show, launched from the west end of the Port of Newport’s International Terminals, has long been one of the community’s signature traditions and draws spectators from across Oregon. Newport Fire Department crews will oversee safety throughout the event.
It has the rather unusual distinction of being the one celebration on the Oregon coast where the sound bounces off the nearby hills and Coast Range mountains, making for an extra layer of auditory fun.
This year’s celebration carries added significance as communities nationwide commemorate the semiquincentennial. Residents and visitors are expected to gather along the Bayfront and surrounding viewpoints for an evening highlighting history, patriotism, and community spirit.

The holiday weekend will also feature the return of the Lincoln County Fair and Rodeo, running July 2–4 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds, 633 NE 3rd St. The free, family-friendly event will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will include a Northwest Pro Rodeo Association-sanctioned rodeo, exhibits, live music, games, food trucks, and activities for all ages.
Additional festivities include the Newport Symphony Orchestra’s annual free Fourth of July concert, set for 4 p.m. at Newport Middle School. The performance has become a community tradition and leads into the evening fireworks show.
“Celebrating the Fourth of July in Newport is always special, but this year’s event carries added significance as we recognize our country’s 250 years of independence,” City Manager Nina Vetter said. “We have some wonderful free community events lined up, along with the amazing dining, shopping, and activities Newport has to offer year-round. We are excited to bring the community together for a fun, safe, and memorable 250th celebration.”

It is important to note that like many towns along the Oregon coast, personal fireworks are banned. Leave the pyro to the professionals.
City officials encourage attendees to arrive early for the fireworks display and plan for heavy traffic and limited parking throughout Newport and the Bayfront.
