Join the group Netarts-based WEBS for a rewarding day of stewardship at Cape Lookout State Park on August 26.

This volunteer trail-work event at Cape Lookout State Park later this month will give community members a chance to help restore one of the Oregon coast’s most popular hiking routes while major construction keeps the park’s main facilities closed.

WEBS staff and volunteers will host the stewardship day on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. With the campground and day-use area shut down during ongoing improvement projects, organizers say the temporary closure creates a rare window for trail repairs that are difficult to complete during peak visitation.

“This hands-on stewardship project is open to all experience levels,” WEBS said. “Please note that the work is physically demanding and is not suitable for youth under the age of 14.”

Participants will meet at the Cape Lookout Trailhead before hiking roughly 1.5 miles to the work site. Crews will haul gravel to reinforce a chronically muddy stretch of trail and use hand tools to level the surface and improve drainage.

It's a fulfilling day of getting back to nature in a particularly engaging way. See more about Cape Lookout here.

The project is open to volunteers of all experience levels, and WEBS says the day offers a chance to learn trail-building skills while working alongside Oregon State Parks rangers and community members.

McMenamins’ Lighthouse Brewfest marks its 30th year on Saturday, Aug. 15, with fourteen ales facing off in an all-day tasting competition at the Lighthouse Brewpub in Lincoln City. The event is free to attend, and $18 taster trays include a raffle ticket.

McMenamins will pour 14 beers and two ciders, and visitors can vote for their favorite. Brewery tours, specialty beer tastings and distillery tastings run from noon to 6 p.m., and food specials will be available throughout the day. All ages are welcome, though sampling is limited to those 21 and older.

Fun fact: the Lighthouse Brewpub was the first brewpub to open on the Oregon coast.
