(Bandon, Oregon) – Two separate arrest incidents on the south Oregon coast over the Valentine's Day holiday weekend involved vehicles in dangerous situations, as well as the Coos County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) and the Bandon Police Department. One involved a high-speed chase and the other an alleged drunken driver who crashed in front of a deputy. (Photos courtesy CCSO)
A Lakeside woman was arrested late Friday after crashing her pickup near an active traffic stop, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on February 13, 2026, at 10:22 p.m., when Deputy M.R. Smith was conducting an unrelated traffic stop on Airport Way near North 8th Street in Lakeside. While speaking with the driver he had pulled over, Smith saw another vehicle on the other side of the intersection suddenly crash.
Deputy Smith ran to the scene and found that 60-year-old Laurie E. Lindsay had crashed her 2016 Ford F-150 onto a large concrete block at the corner of North 8th and Airport Way. The sheriff’s office said Lindsay was not injured, but her vehicle was left teetering on the block.

“An investigation into the crash resulted in the arrest of Laurie E. Lindsay (60) on the charge of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants,” said the CCSO. “The vehicle was removed from the location by Mast Brothers Towing.”
Lindsay was transported to the North Bend Police Department for additional testing and was later released on citation.

Saturday proved at least as dramatic as the previous night in the southern Oregon coast county, when a Sheriff’s deputy arrested a motorcyclist late that evening after a high-speed pursuit south of Bandon.
CCSO said the incident began around 11:58 p.m. on February 14, 2026, when the deputy attempted to stop a green 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle that was reportedly traveling well above the posted 55-mph limit on U.S. Highway 101 near Upper Four Mile Lane.

Deputies say the rider refused to stop and fled south, turning onto Bethel Mountain Road and then onto Marple Lane. The pursuit continued over the muddy, pothole-filled roadway, where the motorcycle was seen catching air due to excessive speed. The rider, later identified as 43-year-old JD W. Easley, eventually crashed into a dirt bank and attempted to flee on foot. The deputy chased Easley on foot, tackled him, and took him into custody.

Once arrested, Easley was found to have an outstanding warrant, which was confirmed. He now faces additional charges of Attempting to Elude by Vehicle, Attempting to Elude on Foot, and Reckless Driving. He was transported to the Coos County Jail, and Mast Brothers Towing removed the motorcycle from the scene.
“The Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank the Bandon Police for their assistance in this incident,” the CCSO said.
