(Port Orford, Oregon) - Quiet yet atmospheric; beloved and yet a little mystical and misty: the south Oregon coast town of Port Orford will take a running jump into the season. The charming burgh hosts its first Port Goreford Halloween Celebration, a weeklong festival of haunted history, community fun, and prize-filled adventures running October 24 to October 31 throughout North Curry County. It is, as they say, a very Curry Halloween.
At the center of the festivities is the Battle Rock Kraken Treasure Hunt, a family-friendly scavenger game inspired by local lore of a cursed treasure said to wash ashore under mysterious circumstances. Participants can collect specially marked “Kraken coins” from businesses around town and return them to the Kraken’s Chest at the Port Orford Visitor Center to claim prizes.
Returning three signed coins earns a drawstring sport pack and entry into prize drawings totaling over $2,300.
“We wanted to create something silly, interactive, and totally Port Orford to help drive business to the area in the slower shoulder season,” said Kim Foster, Port Orford Main Street board member and event organizer.
The grand prize, known as The Kraken’s Bounty, includes a two-night luxury stay at The Cove, a whale-watching tour with South Coast Tours, and gifts from several local businesses. The first prize, The Siren’s Spoils, features a two-night stay at The Lily Pad, a guided fishing trip, and gifts from area shops and salons. The second prize, The Treasure Chest, offers over $400 in goods and gift cards from local retailers.

The week is packed with themed events. The fun gets going in a very southern Oregon coast manner.
On October 25, Nicki’s Knick-Knacks hosts a scavenger hunt from 10 AM to 5 PM, followed by a Rotary pasta dinner and auction at Scuttlebutts at 5 PM and the Harvest Ball in Langlois at 6 PM. October 26 features the TalkDeath Cemetery Scavenger Hunt at 11:30 AM and a Death Café at Sea Wolf Books from 4 to 6:30 PM. Midweek highlights include Gothic Horror and Bookstore Cocktails at Sea Wolf Books and Boogieman Bingo at Sixes Grange on October 29, along with an Open Mic Night at Mr. Ed’s.
Halloween Day brings a full slate of activities, starting with the Driftwood Elementary Costume Parade at 9:30 AM, the Witches Dance from 1 to 3 PM, and events at Coastal Swag, Kat’s Corner, and the Dockside Haunted Boat Decoration Contest. Evening festivities include parties at Mr. Ed’s Underground Pub and the Port Orford Public Library from 6 to 8 PM.

All events are free and open to the public, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy a week of spooky-season fun along the Oregon coast.
