(Portland, Oregon) – A whole lotta freezin' goin' on, as the old song sort of says. Large chunks of Oregon and Washington – including the coastline – get quite the possibility for freezing or frost overnight tonight. (Photo courtesy Angi D Wildt Gallery in Astoria. You may find a thin layer on your car Saturday morning, though likely nothing this large)
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Frost Advisory from midnight Friday night through 9 a.m. Saturday for portions of northwest and west-central Oregon and southwest Washington.
The coastline or urban areas aren't quite as likely, but rural parts of the valley, inland Washington and Coast Range have a high chance of dipping in and around the freezing point.
According to the NWS, temperatures of 36 degrees or lower are expected to produce frost, which could damage or kill sensitive your outdoor vegetation if left unprotected. Residents are urged to cover vulnerable plants with lightweight fabric or move potted plants indoors.
This Frost Advisory is for the areas of:

Clatsop County Coast, Tillamook County Coast, Central Coast of Oregon, Central Oregon Coast Range, Lower Columbia River, Inner Portland Metro, East Portland Metro, Outer Southeast Portland Metro, West Columbia River Gorge of Oregon above 500 feet, Cascade Foothills of Marion and Linn counties, Lane County Cascade Foothills, Willapa Hills, Cowlitz County Lowlands, Inner Vancouver Metro and East Clark County Lowlands.
Cities included in the advisory are Boring, Mill City, Valsetz, Pacific City, Kelso, Corbett, Lake Oswego, Lincoln City, Longview, Castle Rock, St. Helens, McKenzie Bridge, Warrenton, Neskowin, Portland, Sellwood, Scappoose, Estacada, Camas, Vancouver, Mary's Peak, Clatskanie, Vida, Gresham, Sandy, Kalama, Waldport, Woodland, Manzanita, Cannon Beach, Detroit, Brooklyn, Evergreen, Seaside, Eagle Creek, Oakridge, Newport, Horton, Astoria, Rainier, Oregon City, Happy Valley, Washougal, Silver Falls, Salmon Creek, Tillamook, Florence, Fairview, Troutdale and Rockaway Beach.
The agency also said some areas will no longer be receiving frost or freeze headlines this season.

“Frost and freeze headlines are only issued through the growing season of April 1 through October 31,” the NWS said. “Therefore, frost or freeze headlines will not be issued beginning November 1, even though similar low temperatures are possible. Additionally, frost and freeze headlines will no longer be issued this growing season for the Upper Hood River Valley, southern Willamette Valley, south Washington Cascade Foothills, and north Oregon Coast Range as these locations have already experienced a hard freeze earlier in October.”
Freeze Watches Oregon and Washington

A Freeze Watch is in effect from late Friday night through Saturday morning for parts of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. Temperatures could fall to 32 degrees or lower in the Clackamas County Cascade Foothills, East Central Willamette Valley, Tualatin Valley, West Central Willamette Valley, Central Oregon Coast Range Lowlands and North Clark County Lowlands.
Again, frost and freezing temperatures could damage or kill sensitive vegetation and may also damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The NWS has also issued a Freeze Watch for the Middle Chehalis River Valley from late Friday night through Saturday morning. Overnight lows could drop to between 26 and 30 degrees.

A separate Freeze Watch for parts of Washington remains in effect for the Lowlands of Lewis and Southern Thurston counties, including Rochester, Fords Prairie, Chehalis and Grand Mound. The National Weather Service says temperatures could fall to between 26 and 30 degrees late Friday night into Saturday morning, bringing the potential for damaging frost and freeze conditions.
