There was a fire this weekend on the north Oregon coast several miles from Pacific City, closer to Blaine, known as the Upper Nestucca River Road Brush Fire. Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District said Monday the forward spread had been stopped and crews had moved into mop-up mode. The scene was turned over to the U.S. Forest Service, which assumed command, with Oregon Department of Forestry assisting. Tillamook PUD remained on scene, and officials expected the road to reopen shortly. Power in the area was shut off.
Earlier Monday, a separate fire ignited just east of Depoe Bay under Oregon Department of Forestry jurisdiction, drawing in Depoe Bay Fire District. ODF’s West Oregon District conducted the initial attack on the Depoe Bay Creek Fire, located about two miles east of town. The fire was estimated at 2.18 acres. Resources included Depoe Bay Fire District, an AIC crew, two ODF Type 4 engines, an ODF Type 6 engine, a contracted Type 6 engine, and a Type 2 dozer.
A short time later, crews reported that forward progress had been stopped.

“Depoe Bay Fire District is assisting our ODF partners with this incident with a Type 3 wildland interface engine, 3 firefighters and a chief officer,” the district said. “Forward progress has been stopped and there are no structures threatened.”
DBFD said the incident underscores ongoing wildfire risks in the region and urged homeowners to prepare by creating defensible space and having an evacuation plan.
A single-vehicle crash south of Bandon on Sunday evening led to the hospitalization of a 46-year-old driver who investigators say was heavily impaired.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched around 7:50 p.m. on May 10, 2026, to a report of a wreck near milepost 1.5 on Rosa Road, just off Highway 101. Bandon Police arrived first and secured the scene until the deputy reached the location.

The driver, identified as William Hackworth of Coos County, was taken to Bay Area Hospital for treatment. Investigators later determined he was significantly under the influence of alcohol. A blood sample was collected, and Hackworth remained under medical care.
He is being referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office on charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Authorities noted that police action is not indicative of guilt and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
