(Gold Beach, Oregon) – Two crashes in different parts of the Oregon coast region resulted in one fatality and a few injuries over the weekend.
Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision Friday morning on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 312 in Curry County on the south Oregon coast (between Gold Beach and Port Orford).
Troopers were called to the scene around 8:20 a.m. after a northbound Chrysler Pacifica drifted into the oncoming lane and struck a small school bus that had been converted into a motorhome. The Chrysler was driven by 18-year-old Luke Anree May Dizon of Covington, Washington.
“The operator of the Chrysler (Dizon) was declared deceased at the scene and had reportedly fallen asleep at the wheel,” OSP said.
An 18-year-old passenger in the Chrysler, Maryanne Drake of Auburn, Washington, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Two other adult passengers were transported with minor injuries, while a fourth passenger was unhurt.

Highway 101 was partially closed for about two hours during the investigation that Friday morning.
OSP was assisted by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Gold Beach Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Another wreck in the Oregon Coast Range left a teen rather seriously injured.
Since Sunday, Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a weekend crash in Eddyville that left a 13-year-old boy seriously injured after a motorcycle collided with an Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife patrol vehicle.
The crash occurred in the 600 block of Nashville Road. According to authorities, the state trooper driving the patrol vehicle reported the incident to his dispatch center, and the Sheriff’s Office was asked to conduct an independent investigation.

Deputies say the motorcycle was being operated by a 13-year-old with another 13-year-old riding as a passenger. The preliminary investigation indicates the pair had been riding on private property before entering the roadway, where the patrol vehicle was passing through. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, and both juveniles were thrown from the bike.
Investigators say the passenger’s left leg and foot went under the patrol vehicle’s passenger-side tire or tires.
“The juvenile passenger suffered significant injury to his left leg and foot that resulted in his transport to a hospital in Corvallis for treatment,” said the agency. “Initial reports expect the juvenile to recover.”
The investigation continues in coordination with Oregon State Police. Parents of both juveniles have been notified.
"The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office would like to remind all drivers, whether off-road or passenger vehicle operators, to be conscientious of other vehicle traffic in the area," the agency said. "All drivers are required by law to stop before entering roadways and to drive with due regard for the safety of others."
