On February 4, 45-year-old area resident Ryan Handran was reported missing after failing to return home from his job at the Bachelor’s Inn on Edwards Road in Coos Bay. According to investigators, he was last seen in the Bunker Hill area during the early morning hours, unclothed and walking toward Mullen Road. He was seen on surveillance video from a nearby building setting down his belongings and his clothing, then walking away.

Handran is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing between 150 and 195 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is known to have health concerns but is not considered dangerous.

Family members say he has Huntington's Disease, a progressive neurological condition that can result in disorientation, confusion and other issues. They are anxious to find him as every minute counts in his current state.

“The Coos County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, and over the past week, has diligently canvassed the area,” the agency said.

They have conducted an extensive search, including interviews with co-workers, reviews of surveillance footage, neighborhood canvassing, checks of local waterways, drone searches in difficult terrain, and coordination with media and law enforcement agencies along the Oregon coast.

Despite those efforts, investigators say they have hit an impasse and are pleading with the public for more help.

“The Sheriff’s Office has currently exhausted all investigative leads,” the agency said.

Anyone with information about Handran’s whereabouts is asked to contact Sgt. J. Gray or Deputy S. Starr at Jgray@co.coos.or.us, sstarr@co.coos.or.us, or 541-396-7800.
