(Lincoln City, Oregon) – One part of Lincoln City is set to go under the knife next week, as is a small area on the route towards the Oregon coast. You may notice some traffic issues there, according to Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
Access to and from U.S. 101 at NW 14th Street in Lincoln City will close beginning Jan. 27 as crews begin work on new ADA curb ramps and pedestrian push-button installations. Transportation officials say the temporary closure is necessary to protect workers, speed up construction and maintain pedestrian access along the west side of the highway, ODOT said.
During the closure, drivers on NW 14th Street will get detoured onto U.S. 101 via NW Harbor Avenue and NW 17th Street. Those moving down U.S. 101 heading for NW 14th Street will be directed south to NW 12th Street, then routed back north via NW Harbor Avenue.
The closure is expected to last up to two weeks, and nearby businesses and parking will remain accessible throughout the project, ODOT said.
But wait – there's more.

Once work on the west side is complete, crews will shift to the east side of U.S. 101 at NE 14th Street, likely in early February. That phase will require nighttime single-lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. NE 14th Street will operate as eastbound-only between U.S. 101 and NE Keel Avenue during those hours, with westbound traffic detoured to NE Oar Avenue and NE 17th Street. Two-way access will remain open during daytime hours, and this portion of the project is also expected to take up to two weeks.
Drivers in Lincoln City should anticipate daytime work Monday through Thursday, with occasional Friday and nighttime activity. Shoulder and lane closures, flagger-directed delays and construction noise - particularly from concrete saws - are likely. Business access and parking will stay open. Expect noise and some dust.

Another set of ADA curb ramp upgrades are also beginning next week along OR 18B in Willamina and Sheridan, bringing ramps up to current accessibility standards. Daytime construction, lane shifts, closures and flagger delays are expected, though nearby businesses will remain open. Pedestrian access, including for people with disabilities, will be maintained through or around work zones.

ODOT emphasized the importance of ADA curb ramps, noting that they provide smoother, safer transitions between sidewalks and streets for people using wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, bicycles and for anyone who may struggle with high curbs. They encourage drivers to slow down and watch for workers as construction continues.
