(Pacific City, Oregon) – The Thanksgiving weekend holiday is a big one on the coastline and beach towns: at least when it comes to vacation rentals. It's a family tradition for many to come out to the Oregon coast and grab either a home or a room with a kitchen, and do the pigging out feast with the ocean nearby. The vast majority of those vacation rentals are all snapped up – but one in Pacific City is still showing some openings. (Above: the Shell Shack in Pacific City)

That and the weekend following the holiday is often the center attraction as well, and even most of those are gobbled up. There are some possibilities to check, and there is one restaurant in Newport that is still open for seatings with its special holiday feast.

In Pacific City, Kiwanda Coastal Properties still has several homes open for the holiday – and this includes Neskowin as well. There's still a few openings over the weekend too. You can see these on the Kiwanda Coastal Properties site.

You may want to confirm openings by phone as some rentals have unique 3-night minimums. 503-965-7212. Website here.

Among them:

The Shell Shack is a serious charmer of a cottage in Pacific City, designed to be both stylish and restful. There's a sizable amount of thoughtful details, colorful garden flowers, and a sunny front deck. The end result is it offers a welcoming retreat less than a mile from the sprawling beaches of Cape Kiwanda and Bob Straub State Park. The home sits in a quiet residential neighborhood, providing peace and beach tranquility while still being within walking distance of local restaurants, the river, and the shoreline. Inside, guests will find a well-stocked kitchen and everything needed to relax after a day of coastal adventures.

The Shell Shack property includes Wi-Fi, a spacious deck, and a barbecue – and it accommodates up to two cars. However, trailers and RVs are not permitted. One interesting find is a pack-n-play (portable crib is available for families). The two-level layout features a main floor with a kitchen, living room, dining area, one bedroom with a queen bed, a full hall bath, and access to the deck. Upstairs, there is another queen bedroom with a full bath, along with a third bedroom furnished with two twin beds.

Then there's the calming beach house of the Kiwanda Cabana. This woodsy home is designed for family getaways. Located in a gated neighborhood just a short walk from the ocean, it offers easy access to trails for walking and biking, where deer are often seen. The home is open and inviting, with a south-facing deck that provides a sheltered spot during these crazed storms of an Oregon coast winter.

With two bedrooms and one bathroom, the house comfortably accommodates up to five guests. Sleeping arrangements include one queen bed and a twin-over-full bunk bed. The great room and kitchen are equipped with two televisions, one with a DVD player, along with basic Spectrum wireless internet, Roku, and a selection of games, books, and movies.

The property is part of Kiwanda Shores, a private gated community of well-kept homes on the Pacific City oceanfront. Residents and guests share a commitment to security, pride of ownership, and the enjoyment of a peaceful coastal lifestyle. The neighborhood features a low-bank sandy beach that slopes gently to the ocean, with access available to homes beyond the oceanfront row.

Restaurant Feast

One restaurant in Newport reported openings to Oregon Coast Beach Connection (there are more but no others reported back).

The central Oregon coast's new kid on the block, Café Sylvia, still has seatings available for its special Thanksgiving buffet. They call it “gourmet with an ocean view.”

There's not a bad view in the house. The gleaming new space offers visitors a relaxed setting for its usual breakfasts with locally sourced cuisine. However, it has a special buffet on Thursday.

Situated on the lower level of the hotel’s in-house café, it provides a convenient stop for a quick bite before a beach walk, a quiet place to continue reading, or a scenic spot to watch the tides from the connected outdoor patio.

The café is open to the public each morning and serves as an all-day gathering space for hotel guests, who can use it to unwind, meet with others, or take part in on-site events. Operating hours run daily from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Access is through the main hotel entrance, and inquiries can be directed to 541-265-5428 or Cafe@HotelSylvia.com. Cafe' Sylvia
