(Coos Bay, Oregon) - Is it too early in the year to think about Christmas? Not if you want to want to make it to one glorious and famous south Oregon coast display.
The Holiday Light Show at Shore Acres State Park will return this season with thousands of lights and illuminated displays throughout the park’s formal garden. It's perhaps the most impressive display in Oregon and the coast. And tickets are already on sale.
Here's why:
Timed entry and parking reservations are required, and the $10 parking permits must be purchased before arriving at the park. Sales opened June 1 at 6 a.m., with tickets available for visits from Nov. 26 through Dec. 31.
Available on the Shore Acres reservation web page or call 800-452-5687, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Parking reservations are offered in four evening time slots: 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. All visitors must reserve a date, time and parking permit, which is issued per vehicle. No onsite parking purchases will be available during event hours, and timed entry must be secured in advance. Guests without a 4:30 p.m. ticket must leave the park by 4 p.m. to accommodate incoming reservations.
Why reserve them?
The system is designed to speed entry and reduce traffic backups on Cape Arago Highway. Reservations are issued per vehicle, and passengers do not need individual tickets. No onsite sales are available, and all permits must be secured before arrival.

Event parking is limited to the Shore Acres day-use lot after the sun goes down. For safety reasons, parking is prohibited at nearby day-use areas, scenic overlooks and along the highway. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) notes that all pullouts along this stretch are designated day-use areas and are closed to vehicle access after dark.
Reservations open June 1 through the Shore Acres reservation webpage or by phone at 800-452-5687, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Half of the season’s parking inventory will be released that day. Visitors who cannot secure their preferred date will have a second opportunity through a seven-day rolling window that begins Nov. 19 at 6 a.m.

Under the rolling window system, remaining tickets are released seven days before each event date. On Nov. 19, reservations open for Nov. 26. Beginning Nov. 26, visitors may book any available parking spots for dates up to seven days ahead, extending through Dec. 3 on opening day.
“If your preferred date is sold out, the remaining tickets will be released seven days ahead of the event, starting Nov. 19 at 6 a.m. for visits on Nov. 26,” OPRD said.
Visitors who already hold a valid 12-month parking permit, a veterans or foster families special pass, a current state park camping receipt, or an Oregon Pacific Coast Passport may waive the $10 fee during the reservation process. These items must be presented along with the reservation confirmation at entry.
